My YLF does the same half the time she spits it up later in the house somewhere. I've tried telling her NO but she waits 5 min. and goes at it again.
Was thinking the same as Sharon as to diet or something.

Re: Needs Some Puppy Crate/sleep Advice
This yellow lab I have now wanted nothing to do with her crate. Barked howled liquid diarrhea the works. We just kept at the crate training small sessions all day and night.
Shags gave you good advice the only thing I would add is stay the course a crate trained dog is well worth it in the end.

Re: WATER RETRIVE FOR BRITTANY???
If you collar conditioned properly in force fetch then fetching would not be the issue. Ask me how I know.

Re: Field Trial Washouts
Friend of mine has been looking for a retriever just as you described. He's having a heck of a time. Not overly picky just wants a good meat dog to retrieve waterfowl. Willing to pay going rate for the right dog. Harder to come by then I expected.

Nice video that's for sharing.
I think I'm getting a bit of soft spot for those bearded dogs. Never hunted with one but like the look of them.

Lucky for me the dog enjoys the wife's shoes much more then mine. And about the time the wife notices she becomes "my dog" instead of "our dog".
Still worth it! Lol

Re: do you save a bird or two for training?
I keep a bunch.. Get quite a few sessions from each bird. refreezing in between. I buy a dozen pigeons in the spring generally gets me through til the fall if need be.

Re: Frozen bird
This is what my advise would be... I had a lot of trouble in the beginning with using frozen birds my BLF acts like its her first bird when there too froze. I can generally use a bird for plenty of training sessions and refreeze again.CDN_Cocker wrote:Thaw completely before each use

I learned the most from having a trainer help ME learn to train the dog. It was well worth the money to have a trainer with me and the dog. just my .02 cents

Re: Force Fetch question
I have made a couple phone calls to have some more experienced trainers help. Its complicated to ask questions on a forum when people cant see me or the dog. Was hoping FF would go as easy as everything else has. Is your dog shutting down because of pressure, or are you nagging the dog and it's just...

When i went to the ear pinch she seems to "get it" but is slow to actually fetch, if she decides to fetch at all. I keep putting the bumper in her mouth and release the pressure b...

First Heat Cycle
For me and The Dog... Always Spayed before the first Heat with the rest of my dogs. Just had a couple questions on what to expect. How long generally does the bleeding last? Do most people continue with some training during heat cycles or wait until its over? Her attitude seems to change daily (I kn...

Re: My pup is eating birds on retreive
Wow ! Hit lots of nerves... It's been ice and snow and ice and snow all winter. Worked mostly on obedience for the last couple months which is coming along very well. Recall is very good. Ive been using ducks for retrieving during gun conditioning. What I was trying to do is not force fetch until co...

Everything is good other then shes realized that she can eat the birds. Retreving and obedience is going well with bumpers or dokkens mallard. When shes return...

To spay or not to spay?
What is everyones thoughts on spaying a hunting dog? I have no intention on breeding her myself.
Just interested on a few thoughts. Theres pros and cons either way I just need to decide what works for me.
Thanks in advance

I have a lab pup who did the same thing... shes now 5 months old and starting to retrieve good... im no expert but this is what I have been doing and its working for me. No toys in the house whatsoever the only time we get to "play" is with the bumper. I ran around with it in my hand got her excited...
