Re: Closing day ... what do you remember most?
Didnt get to hunt as much this year as I normally do, however from Christmas time to the end of our season Jan 31, hit it pretty hard. Found more quail this year than I have in 10 yrs or so. Dont know that quail #'s can rebound across KS as widespread as they used to be due to all the lost CRP and c...

Re: Pig Pointers
Interesting story - glad the dogs made it out ok.
Here in KS if my dog ever points anything other than birds I'm always paranoid it will be a skunk. Was sprayed once in my late teens and still havent forgotten. Luckily the strangest thing pointed this year were mice, 2 armadillos and an opossum.

Re: Good area to hunt pheasant in Kansas?
To be honest if you are planning on spending lots of money on a trip Id bypass this state and go somewhere else. All I did was get exercise for the 2012, and 2013 seasons. I dont expect it to be a heckuva lot better next year. If you're going on the most bang for your buck, more will be had somewher...

Put his collar on when he goes out. After a week of having the e collar on when hes outside, put him out again with it. Sit inside, have the remote, listen - when the tapping starts hit the button, if he does it again turn up the stimulation. If the dog isnt dumb a few times of this would probably c...

Re: WHERE do you buy your dod food?
I buy from Chewy.com -- use the autoship feature. For a new customer I found a discount code online -- saved a bit on the first order. Anyways, I hate having to go to the store to buy petfood and if I could order my groceries online I would. People on this site turned me on to the chewy site -- Ive ...

Re: Does your dog ride up front
Just depends. Usually when they are a puppy or young, they wont ride up front much. Im like others and think it can be dangerous if a dog is not well behaved. Punches to the head when they try to get too close to me (not to hard) teach them real quick they stay on their side and there is no coming o...

Re: Transitioning from truck cab to truck bed...
Up to this point I have been transporting my springer pup in a crate in the back seat of my truck. Unfortunately he is getting so big (very long and leggy) that he has pretty much outgrown all of my smaller crates. I have a nice plastic crate that I can ratchet strap into the bed of my truck. My pu...

This should be legalized all over the US. And Im sure it will someday. Im sure thats another topic and one that could be heated. As for hunting with someone high...theres a difference between taking a puff or two off a joint and getting completely stoned. I really dont want to hunt with a person who...

I read through some of this but I hunt in KS only. Dont travel anywhere else. This year have happened to see more Coyotes than I remember in years past. Im guessing they have thrived well with all the animals dying from the drought we've had. Anyways this year, Im not sure if it was their breeding s...

I believe it depends a lot on what you expect when going on to that private land. Currently, my parents and I own a few hundred tillable acres and a couple hundred acres of pasture land. We no longer farm, so the tillable is cash rented out, and the pasture is rented to other ranchers. The land is ...

Paying to hunt is an abhorrent practice that is destroying hunting for all future generations. Everyone has their rights, but I do agree with the above statement. In the name of the almighty dollar we are killing the heritage and the sport. A lot of the pay to play mindset is about how many birds y...

My solution may sound a bit overly aggressive, but if I were to see it happen again, Id have a come to Jesus meeting with the dog. Kind of sounded like it was sponsored by the USDA or a mass market pet food company. I cant see enough of it, but from what I can see I believe its a greater. The "bar's" on the feathers look too big to be a lesser.
The range maps posted above are not very accurate at all. The scaled quail map KS posts is probably the biggest joke. They are not just in the corner.

I dont claim to be an expert so I could be wrong but that looks like a greater. The "barring" on the feathers is larger on a greater.
A lesser to me more resembles the "Barring" on a scaled quail and its also a bit smaller.
