Ptarmigan hunt in Alaska. I think it was December 27th. Truck thermometer said -34° F and the wind was blowing on the ridges. Dog had no problems. I used Continental Airlines a few years back when I went to Alaska. My pup went under the plane, but they told me that I could have held her in my lap if I had a collapsible crate.

it really depends on when you go. It can be excellent during the week, but I won't go on a weekend as I am just not into the crowds. One thing that is nice here is it is all pre-registered now and you can show up any time you like. If they allow clean-up hunts afterwards, that is a great time to go...

I carry that old 12 gauge for nostalgic reasons more than anything. My grandfather had a very similar shotgun, and that is what I grew up shooting. Quail calls can be used to locate coveys. They are not going to come flying to you like a duck, but if you're lucky, they will whistle back. I've never heard of anyone calling pheasants.

I think you would be better off opening that choke up to Imp Cyl for quail hunting. Imp Mod is almost as tight as Full.
