Post rehab advise
My GSP got the clear to run freely from the vet and physical therapist after surgery and 6 months of rehab for a broken femur which cost $8k. I'm a little nervous about letting him let loose in the snow. I was thinking of short runs at first. What do you think about letting him run in the grouse woo...

Should I be concerned?
On Thursday I found a few grouse in open PA woods hiding in old small blow downs. I thought this was odd, there wasn't any food around except ferns and very open woods. Maybe they were there because they're expecting snow to be there to bury in. One thing happened that has me a little concerned, is ...

My pair of Mules and Filson's double tins fit good on a 6'3 200lbs. Both about 95% water proof after sitting in the snow for 4 hours.

Re: for those of you that have the garmin alpha...
There are many things that I like about the alpha. For me I like the on point and tracking, The one thing that drives me crazy is when the handheld is locked and attached to my belt it hits my leg and beeps. This happens all the time. I am going to try to attach it to my vest this year. If you don't...

Imagine this, Sport Dog 1875 1/2gal Jim Beam, 2 cases of beer, 4 burly guys at camp and no satellite trying to act tough. We made it to 8 but we were heavily intoxicated. I would never go past 4 with my dog.

I am up in the air with Dr. Tim. I'm not cheap by any means but $75 for a 40lb bag seems to much. Plus I have to purchase it online and pay for shipping. Right now I use Native 3 and TOTW which mixed together are great, separate not so much but its the hassle of buying two different foods that I'm t...

Perhaps picking up the poop and the dog won't eat it.

I have a Vizsla and he hunts way better when he's warm. I bought him Hurtta Waterproof Fleece Dog Jacket 74.99. It fits him real nice and keeps him warm all day.

Re: Vizsla owner questions
I have a 3 year old vizsla. He's a great hunting dog. He will tear up the woods for grouse but not as much in the field for pheasants and will always find birds. He will run all day. I got lucky with him because I got him from a breeder that never hunted her dogs. Right now I hunt with four gsp's an...

Re: holy smokes i forgot how puppies are.
Ear plugs work good at night. I tried crating in a separate room and it didn't go over well. Put his crate next to my bed , I put my other dog in the crate with him, seemed to calm him down. He sleeps by himself now and it's been good ever since that night. I tried to take my pup out every 20min whe...

If you put front line on your pet after a bath it will not be very affective. The frontline, advantix, etc. spreads thru the oils on your pet. If you wash your dog you wash away the oils. Just saying.

My dog is afraid of fireworks but not shotguns
Well my 3yr old is having issues with fireworks. He has never like the booms. He freaks out and tries to dig up the carpet and shakes pretty bad. I don't intentionally take him around them but other people around us occasionally light them off. It really aggravates me when this happens but I can't d...

Re: I want to learn.
Take your dog in the woods and let it run off a leash. It will naturally hunt for something. Be careful not to over do it only go for a hour or two. Your dog might get tired. You really don't need a gun unless you are going to eat what you find. Also look into pheasant preserves. You can buy birds a...

Re: The vet took me to fatten up my pooch
I have a 2yr old vizsla who weighs 52lbs. Very healthy and extremely active. He looks skinny. He gets dewormed every few months. I have been running him next to my Mt bike about 4-6miles every 2 or so days. The vet recommended adding about 10lbs. He is not a big eater (only 2-3 cups a day). I try t...

Re: The vet took me to fatten up my pooch
This is the vizsla bitch I train , is your dog thinner than this ? I think this bitch is in good, hard, hunting condition but I wouldn't want to see her any thinner. She is, I think, about 6 months younger than your dog in these pics. http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv297/trekmoor/ROSIE/DSCF3821...

Sometimes Vets like to see dogs a little heavier than many hunters prefer.

Re: leather collar question
I only take my dogs leather collar off when I use my garmin alpha. I was having problems with it creating a static charge that was turning the Ecollar off. I didn't believe it when they told me that, but Garmin was right. The leather collar is holding up well and my dog swims a lot.

Although the season hasn't open yet I ran my dog today at my local hot spot. We had 4 nice points (single birds) and one covey of 6 birds. Looks like the numbers might be up this year in PA. Also had my 14week pup GSP with me, he kept up and had a good time watching the birds fly away. Getting excit...

Puppy training questions
I am looking for a good training video for my 13week GSP. I have watched a few that I borrowed off of friends but in these video's the puppies are older and are already trained. So when I try to do the things these trainers are doing (whoa) my pup is watching bee's on the clover in my yard, barking ...
