Ezzy, Here's the real scoop. DNA will ONLY indicate parentage NO FARTHER. Any other story is just that. I never heard of anyone using testing on mitochondrial DNA on dogs. “No ONE can prove a setter is a pure Llewellin setter with DNA testing, simply because there are no DNA samples of dogs even jus...

How interesting. DELETED POSTS BY ME. I pointed out the original request in this (DELETED) post was about improving a pup's nose. I suggested playing with the pup in hunting dead. Somehow, management here, wanted that direction with the resultant posts decrying the practice as not for hunting dogs. ...

Don't worry about the strain fading away. There are lots and lots of non FDSB dogs out there. Interesting how ONLY llewellins are 'DNA' tested; no other breed.

Simple answer: buy a humphrey's llewellin.
No training bills; dog instinctively knows more about hunting than 99% of the 'trainers' out there.
Sorry, but it is that simple.

If you live in a state that is going to require non-lead then please write to Sinterfire Ammo. They make non toxic bullets and with some encouragement can probably make shot that will cost 1/4 of what tungsten, bismuth and other alternatives are costing now. They just need to know there is a market.

Want real fun with your Aussie? Go find a deer herd. Mine would locate, round up and bring back herds of more than 20 deer. Then you just pick out which one you want.
Herding is what your dog was born to do.

Here in California you can still shoot upland game with lead. Of course not ducks. After 2019 lead shot will not be allowed. Seeing how there is next to nothing of non-toxic ammo other than steel I will have to buy a new shot gun. I just can't afford $20 for 10 shots (non-toxic) From what I have hea...

The way to stop the dog from chasing is to get the dog back in the field and plant some pigeons. I say pigeons because they are cheap. Plant the bird, have the dog point and whoa over them. When you go to kick the birds up, maybe the dog will jump in first; if so, all the better. Let the dog chase (...

To stop all that nonsense, you need to put a leash on him and let him just walk around with it. Yeah, it may get caught in something but when it does You come to the rescue and let him loose. After the pup gets used to the leash then pick it up and walk with the pup. If puppy pulls stop. But remembe...

I don't know what breed of dog you are training but for llewellin setters, Alfred King specifically advised stroking their tail when on a point. When your dog can whoa for 10 or 15 minutes in a public park (with all the distractions) then it is time to go get some pigeons. Pigeons will teach him the real meaning of whoa; not just another obedience exercise. If the dog doesn't whoa then he gets to watch it fly away. Some dogs take a hundred t...

Simple answer is : NO. If the dog is on enough birds or really smart they figure it out for themselves. I have a 14 month old llewellin that I took to a planted public area on thanksgiving. We were late and the stupid birds were shot. All that was left was the smart ones. My pup smelled the birds an...
