Re: Off Leash
Young pups don't need a leash they stay with you. In the field I would never use a leash (unless training something). Let them run and romp and gain confidence and boldness. My guy is 5 months old now and I rarely use a leash (and I live in the city so when I do it is because it is necessary).

I have wasted money on most of those. The best are are Spencer's book, Tyers' dvd, and Mike Smith's book. The rest isn't worth your time, learn from my mistakes - and my wallet. Sounds like they're focusing too much on tail length instead of hunting ability. Tail shouldn't even be a second (or tenth) thought - they're usually docked by the vet so a natural "docked" (read: shorter) tail is something that has been bred for. I would stay away and look for dogs where they're hu...

Shady. I don't know much about the AKC but the CKC has regulations against that. If the dog/litter can be registered, the papers must be given at time of sale and they cannot sell puppies for a different price with/without papers.

Because it doesn't work that way. There is no right/wrong sequencing. For example, should you teach Stop to Flush before steady or after? Do you "dechase" the dog, then hunt him, or hunt him a season and then "dechase"? Is whoa taught at the puppy feed bowl, or in conjunction with heel, or on a tab...

No, here springers and cockers compete against each other in the same trial. It makes no difference whether its an ESS or an ECS - it comes down to the better dog. I know nothing about retriever trials so I cannot speak for them.

I think this is ridiculous, luckily it doesn't matter much to me as I'm a canuck lol. Letting the retrievers run in spaniel tests defeats the purpose I think. Will they be held to the same standard? Do the preliminary training for the "stop" ...that is stop to voice, stop to hand signal, stop to whistle, stop to flush and take your time over doing it . Do NOT rush the pup or you will end up with a liitle black slug instead of a hunting dog. Then when all that is 100% at distances of up to about...

All pigeons home about like most animals point, which is nothing more than that pause to gather themselves before they pounce and catch their prey. By that logic it would be acceptable to take a well bred dog hunting, expect it to know what birds are and how to handle them. You can also shoot birds over it without it ever previously handling a bird. Certainly that's not what you have in mind? Nate No, that would be harnessing it's prey drive a...
