Re: Off Leash

Young pups don't need a leash they stay with you. In the field I would never use a leash (unless training something). Let them run and romp and gain confidence and boldness. My guy is 5 months old now and I rarely use a leash (and I live in the city so when I do it is because it is necessary).

Sounds like they're focusing too much on tail length instead of hunting ability. Tail shouldn't even be a second (or tenth) thought - they're usually docked by the vet so a natural "docked" (read: shorter) tail is something that has been bred for. I would stay away and look for dogs where they're hu...

Shady. I don't know much about the AKC but the CKC has regulations against that. If the dog/litter can be registered, the papers must be given at time of sale and they cannot sell puppies for a different price with/without papers.

Because it doesn't work that way. There is no right/wrong sequencing. For example, should you teach Stop to Flush before steady or after? No, here springers and cockers compete against each other in the same trial. It makes no difference whether its an ESS or an ECS - it comes down to the better dog. I know nothing about retriever trials so I cannot speak for them.

By that logic it would be acceptable to take a well bred dog hunting, expect it to know what birds are and how to handle them.
