Re: Utility Test

Also, I highly recommend seeking out a chapter that you like in your area. The NAVHDA organization has been instrumental for my family and our dog http://www.navhda.org/membership-chapters/locate-chapters-and-members One more, if you get a chance the Handler's Clinics are a great way to learn about ...

Re: Utility Test

What exactly is required for the Utility test? The NA test today went quite well so we need to start training for his Utility test this fall. Hi Rich, The Utility test is the natural progression of dog to a pretty capable Versatile Dog. The official description is here: http://www.navhda.org/testin...

Big congrats, sounds like you are doing it all right and the pup sounds great.

Our boy is a little over 7 months now, it's awesome to see the progression. Good luck!

Re: Looking for a GOOD breeder in Southern California

I don't live in the area, but I would start with the SoCal and San Diego NAVHDA chapters. http://www.socalnavhda.com/ A little further away you have Anita Weiss, she is a member of the Arizona NAVHDA Chapter. I have seen a number of her dogs, and she is pretty well regarded. I believe she trains as ...

Re: Obedience training

We made, and still make, liberal use of the word NO! Maybe calling the pups name and booming out a NO! We started that day one along with physically stopping the activity to help the dog learn that NO means stop whatever it is you are doing. At this point, if we NO or HEY him, he stops what he is do...

Re: Planting pigeons

Before I got launchers I used to head tuck them and loosely wrap a piece of string around them. If they didn't seem to be up and active i could tug the string and make sure they were roused. It seemed relatively reliable, but it is a lot of interference from you. The Huntsmith Puppy DVDs show them u...

Re: Launchers

I just got a used DT Launcher from a forum member, and it appears the remote got damaged in shipping. Annoying for both of us. The beeper works fine, it's just the button for the launch servo that only works when it feels like it. Very annoying. When you are pairing the units can you use the bird an...

Re: snake trainer...what to look for?

I haven't given the vaccine yet, Bullet is only a little over 5 months, but I was talking to the local NAVHDA president about it the other day. Just due to the fact that it gives you extra time to get to a hospital I think it would probably be worth it. You never know where you are going to be, anyt...

Re: snake trainer...what to look for?

The Grand Canyon NAVHDA chapter uses Blankenburg Kennels.

Good option if you aren't in the Phoenix area.

I ignore all undesirable behavior in the kennel.

Re: New Brittany Pup, advice needed

... 1. Is expecting him to NOT void at all in his crate from 11Pm to approximnately 5-5:30 unrealistic at this point? 2. Having the crate outside our bedroom (where I will want it eventually) OK or should he still be able to see me until older? 3. Crating during the day required, or ok to let him s...

Re: Question about bumper training

As Doc points out, this is not retrieving, it is play. Every dog I have had has played with squeaky toys as pups, a few continue as adults. My oldest Britt has had the same favorite one for over 10 years. My best ever duck dog, loved to play tug of war, yet was so soft mouthed live birds would fly ...

Got him swimming!

We met up with our NAVHDA chapter at some ponds near Phoenix, AZ this Sunday with the express goal of getting our little guy (21 weeks) swimming and loving the water a little bit. I was hoping we could get him to do some short swims out, so our club president advised the wife and I to "Plan on getti...

As a newb I have heeded the no-squeeker rule, I figured better safe than sorry.

In your experience you have never seen it have an affect on the dog?
I'd love to see more info on this.

Re: Garmin Delta Sport

I am very interested in the Delta as it seemed like a good deal for the money. If you check voltages please let me know how it goes. I guess it functions like the other analog collar models to a certain extent. You set the overall level, and get a high and low option for only that level. One of the ...

Re: New Puppy Advice

I will be picking up a new Vizsla pup at the end of May. I am new to puppies but have had a few bird dogs, but many years ago. I read alot about crate training. Is there a article or resource that someone could suggest so that I can better understand what to do in regards to crate training? Thanks....

Re: Potty Training

I am a little over a week with my PP, just turned 10 weeks on Sunday. All of this advice is great, so I'm just piling on. We watch him like a hawk unless he is in the crate or laying down, and if we go outside we don't go back inside unless he drains. I have kept a close eye on his average volume so...

I am in Gilbert, AZ just south east of Phoenix proper.

I joined NAVHDA International and my local chapter back in February.

Thanks, I love the little guy already.

Five nights in the crate and he seems to be getting used to it and sleeps most of the night. Only one accident on Sunday night!
That's a worthwhile brag, right?

FNG with a new pup

Hello GDF, I had the fortunate pleasure of taking home my first dog on March 16th After a lot of looking and reading I settled on a Pudelpointer and I got lucky enough to find a breeder close enough to drive to. Meet High Standard's Buddy (Bullet) BulletonTheGreen.jpg The dog was bred by Herb Schode...
