Re: Breeder gripe/worry
Puppies are not born gun shy this is the fault of the owner. Something went wrong after the pup left your care. It's amazing some of the things inexperience gun dog owners will do. I know they mean well but that is not always how it turns out.

Re: NAVHDA
Most NAVDHA groups are very willing to spend the time to help you learn how to train your pup if you are willing to learn and help others out when needed. I would attend their first training day they have if possible. As far as what training to do I assume you are looking at running NA this consist ...

Re: dog going to bathroom often
Make sure you are not over feeding him. I feed level 3 to my gsp's 2 level cups in the am and the again 2 more cups in the pm but only in the winter then I switch to level 2 once we are done with the hunting season. They maintain their weight on this schedule for me.

If you are looking for walking trials a few are NAVHDA, NSTRA and AKC Hunt Test NAVHDA and AKC have test that younger pups can run in and then work your way up to more advance test. Look for a NAVHDA Chapter in your area or attend a AKC Hunt Test to find what it is all about. NAVHDA Chapters usually...

Re: wonderlead vs choke collar
We use the wonder lead both the 6' and 12' lengths. I prefer the rigidness of the wonder lead vs a regular leash and choke collar. We use the 6' lead for heel and sit the 12' for whoa, just make sure you are placing around the dogs neck properly by properly you mean high on neck right behind the ea...

Re: What tips for picking out a puppy do you have?
Some people say let the puppy pick you. Sometimes if your are 3rd or 4th pick you will have no choice its what ever is left. You could ask the breeder for his opinion also If the litter is carefully selected and the breeder knows his genetics then it probably won't mater much but make sure you know ...

Re: Do you really know??
No, you can not tell but by doing your homework and knowing who is doing the breeding and what the parents are like will help you in this process. We believe by selectively breeding the right 2 dogs together we will have consistency through out our litters for the most part. We evaluate each litter ...

Re: Who pays for shipping for stud fee pup?
Stud fee is usually a set price by the stud owner and paid by the bitch owner or in your case the exchange of a puppy. So I would say all you are responsible for is the puppy and the stud owner would pay shipping. Best thing to do is ask him how he would like this handled before any breeding takes p...

Re: Wife wants to ship dog outside
Just tell her it's either her or the new pup  Seriously though I love a new pup inside there is so much you can teach them at that young age as long as you keep it all positive. As far as shedding, its going to happen but a daily brushing will help. I feel very fortunate to never have had fleas...

I have owned my Winchester 1200 20g for over 35 years "Yikes" of course it was my main gun as a young 14 year old but it still works fine today. Only thing you have to watch is mine will not shoot the low brass shells, shoots the high brass fine. With that being said I would still look at the 870 be...

Re: New to the boards with a new GSP
It can be very rewarding training your own gun dog. If you are lacking the knowledge on how to do this then finding a Navhda group or other trainers in your area is a great place for some help and hands on training. Personally I do not like wings, I feel they tend to get a young pup to excited. One ...

Re: Gsp pup with arched back?
I am not familiar with this? Have you talked to the breeder about this. Did you have your puppy checked by a vet shortly after you purchased it? I always recommend to our puppy buyers to have there puppy checked out by a certified Vet with in 72 hours after purchase. I am sure your breeder will work...

How is his stools? Is he still going to the bathroom? Also is he staying hydrated by drinking water? Have you taken his temperature..
These are some things to consider
Of course there is always the Vet if needed.

Re: GSP coat
The coat will vary among different breed lines of shorthairs. I have an all liver male with very soft fur to a liver and white female that is more wire feeling to the touch. One thing I like about the wire coat is it dries so fast. The coat will stay pretty much the same the dogs life. In the winter...
