Re: grouse reports

Went for a couple hours Sunday, the tall grass is starting to lay down. Saw eight got 3 one adult and two young ones. I've noticed a lot of small juveniles, must've been a late hatch.

Re: grouse reports

Went out Monday put up twenty got two Tuesday put up 8 got one wednesday tried some new ground spent 4 hours saw only 4. My best spots seem to be good just about every year, but they are prime with food and cover. It seemed .in 09 there were at least some birds everywhere. Not the case this year.

Re: grouse reports

Went out again for a bit today. I'm hunting Carlton co. With my lab. We put up 8 today, 2 doubles the rest singles,. Shot once, but no luck. Really thick vegetation, and extremely hard to get more than a glimpse before they disappear. Looking promising though.

Re: Ruffed Grouse chicks

It's looking like it will be a down year around here. Normally I see numerous broods of chicks in the spring, and I haven't saw one this year, and me and my lab put on at least 3 miles everyday in grouse territory. Two years ago I could hear drumming from six locations at the same time while sitting...

Re: Favorite Game Bird

Ive always loved grouse hunting, but now that I have a dog again I think even more than deer hunting. Can't beat the challenge even when you know that darn bird is in there there's still a good chance you'll miss or barely get a glimpse of em.

Re: How does your dog respond to coyote smell?

I'm nott sure about coyote, but during deer season we were walking out to shack bout midnight and all of a sudden my lab's tail went up and he trotted around us marking and tearing up the ground, then froze up and stared into the trees until I called him. We shined the spot light and saw a couple wo...

Re: ticks

There are some essential oil that helps, but doesn't eliminate them.with essential oils you can't put it directly on them you put it on the collar. I use one (can't remember which) along with a spray. I have yet to find a tick repellent/killer that works for more than 2 weeks. We have tons of ticks ...

Re: Endurance training.

He's 2 1/2 and is in excellent shape and loves his run he will sit and stare at me or climb on my lap and whine til he gets it. My question is If this is safe for his long term health of bones and ...
