Re: best waterfowl gun
I have had an 835 for about 20 years and an SX3 for about 3ish. Both good guns. Can't beat an 835 for inexpensive, and can't beat the SX3 for performance. I was bringing along the 835 as a backup gun after I got the SX3, but no backup has been necessary with the Winchester. So my 835 is semi-retired!

Here's another update: My wife ended up with a Fabtron Lady Trail, and absolutely loves it - it was super comfortable to start with but she got a fleece seat pad and loves it even more. The only problem I had was the chukar getting out through the bobs. Fortunately the ones that got out came back in the evening and I was able to net them after dark. Here's an update: We picked up a new Tucker Endurance trail saddle, with English rigging and fenders. Wow, was it comfortable! But it does not give very good contact with the horse. I sent a dog to a pro a couple of years ago, and he said that he does all the obedience stuff first before introducing birds - whoa, heel, come, and force fetch have nothing to do with birds, and he says get that out of the way first. For those of you with an Astro 320, I would not recommend that you remove that batteries by taking the battery cover off and slapping the Astro into your palm if you have a micro SD card installed. I have a very high quality digital dB meter at work, if I remember next week I'll see how many dBs the bells I have produce. Re: GARMIN ASTRO 320 Owners
This is, naturally, why Garmin/Tritronics came out with the Alpha. The Astro DC40 collar has holes punched in it and the receiver is fixed to the collar with a clamp & screws. If the Sportdog only has slots big enough for a 3/4" collar, then a 1" collar will not work. The big problem is the e-collar...

My flight pen is right next to the yard. My shorthair mostly ignores the flight pen but slams on point when birds are planted in the yard. I had a setter that wore a race track with a banked turn at the ends next to the flight pen. All dogs are different.

Bottom line is that gauge selection is all about personal preference. There are as many people that love the 16 as there are that don't (as evidenced by the discussion in this thread), so there are as many reasons to own a 16 as not. Patterning has little to do with the gauge, it has everything to d...

Ray G. nailed it. E-collars are a tool - nothing more. People train dogs, not the e-collar; I'm pretty sure I'm paraphrasing something I read somewhere with this, but if your dog does not know a command at 6 feet, it won't know it at 600 feet either whether it's wearing an e-collar or not. I start a...

Personally I prefer a 16 gauge, and if not for goose hunting - which in my opinion demands a heavy 3 to 3-1/2" 12 gauge (or 10 gauge) load - the 16 is all I would use. Remington also introduced a 2-3/4" 16 gauge round called the Auto-Express to go with them. You can find 2-1/2" 16 gauge shells readily on the mark...
