I'll bite. If it was only about making the dogs happy, I'd throw some chickens in the backyard and let the dogs have at them. Would be much cheaper. Dogs don't care how sporting we make it. In all seriousness, you might consider forgetting some of your preconceived notions and instead start your new hobby with a clean slate. Interesting videos. That Bracco does move fairly quick for a dog that isn't running. I imagine he'd still be a bit slow for even an AKC gundog stake, but it's an interesting style of locomotion nonetheless. Regarding the Italian pointer video, why are the handlers launching their dogs forward at bre...

Slistoe, I wasn't questioning the veracity of your accounts. I wasn't there and didn't see what happened. Ray, correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're ultimately looking for a dog (on a relocation) that shows some bird sense in getting the bird pinned. Re: 28 ga over a 20 ga
You can kill anything with a 28 ga if you have it properly choked. You have to match your pattern densities to the birds you're hunting. For example, you probably need to use a full choke if you're using a 28 ga on pheasants. That will give you a similar pattern density to an improved cylinder on a ...

I second what the others said about barrel length, although choosing a barrel length depends a lot on personal preference and the balance of the particular gun. I'll also add that you want a much lighter gun for something like grouse/woodcock. A trap or skeet gun generally weighs around 8 lbs. You w...

I disagree with taxing landowners allowing people to hunt their land. What you described sounds normal for a puppy. She'll grow out of it. The fact that she started hunting hard after she got the nonsense out of her system is a good sign. You may want to consider hunting her alone until she ignores the other dogs.
