Re: scared on the leash
Staking a dog to a post so that it fights (and fails) free itself or tethering it more dominant dogs who will drag it around are not ways to teach a dog that a lead is "nothing it should be concerned about." Quite to the contrary, this teaches a dog to fear the lead (and with good reason). These so...

There will be no 3-peat. Bo was picked up early.
Anyone know why the setter was scratched yesterday. I assume it was last minute or they would've moved a dog up to run in that brace.

Re: As a Breeder what do you look for when placing pups in their
I agree that some people just don't get it -- even hunters. Ideally I'd want every pup to go to a home that both hunts and provides year round stimulating activities. If I had to choose one over the other, then my preference is to sell to the hunting home. I realize this may mean the dog stays in th...

Re: NSTRA Training - What to do NEXT?
I just read my previous post and I think I under-emphasized the need to score high. These trials usually end with more than one dog on top of the leader board with the same number of finds, retrieves, and back/no back. Consequently, high scores are vital. In general it takes a lot of style to score ...

Re: NSTRA Training - What to do NEXT?
Keep in mind that NSTRA's scoring system makes it predominately a cumulative game. Its really hard for 3 finds and 3 retrieves to overcome 4 finds and 4 retrieves. Doing things well enough to score high and/or having a back when the other dog doesn't can get it done, but the easiest way to place is ...
