Could be mange I usually give my dog some salmon oil pills to boost their immunity.
I only bath my GSP's 2 or 3 times a year or when they get into skunks like they did last week.

Re: Meet Axe
Never an easy task to handle on your own. I find if you get the dog on his back things go much easier. Also you can make a bridle out of a drilled out 2" dowel and a chunk of rope. It stops the dog from chewing up your hand and reduces the chance of the quills getting further down the mouth.

I wonder if it is related to his 7:00pm feeding? I have always fed my dogs before I eat not after. It seem to settle them down so we can have a peaceful dinner. A video would go a long way to assessing the issue.

The only suggestion/alternative my vet gave me was to look at knee braces for dogs not so sure they would work in the bush.

I am in the same shoes and I decided to hold off and wait. My dog as stopped limping but you can see a small hing in his gate. The x-ray will show up any arthritis but not the minor tears. The closest CCL repair clinic is 3 1/2 hours away and cost will be north of $4,000 and that come into play with...

I lost an old GSP to a pair of coyotes at the trap club years ago. 2 GSP and 2 coyotes the younger dog could not defend the old dog. They sure made a mess of him in very short time.

Is he fixed? 4year old is when they start to put on weight. If you are feeding him twice a day try changing over to just one evening feeding.
Bottom line he needs to be run every day but in your situation (2kids) that must be tough.

I remembered a fellow Carlo Degan He bought a GSP in 1960 for $250 he bred that breed for decades some were winners some were not so much but a lot of birds ended up in the freezers of the local Italian gang. That was a lot of money in 1960...

This one was in a flock of about 40 birds. With 5 big toms I had to wait 10 minutes for the one to step a side so I could get a clear shot at about 25 yards.

Well that sure sucks. Did you contact your breeder? I have always wonder if it can be corrected surgically or if wearing a brace would help.
