What kind of deals are you getting on good quality alfalfa hay, 50LBS? I pay 5.75 for 50lbs and $20 for 900lbs but only can get them in the summer and i have nowhere to store them.

Stoneface your probably reading old stuff. Pointers are becoming a much more softer dog. Back in the days of really being hard on dogs im sure those dogs were everything you described. My pointers are a lot calmer then my gsps.

Unless a greyhound starts hunting no other dog will come close. Its been what 48 years at Ames and two setters have won! But lets say a gsp does win, what next? It would be like the Cubs!

Sct has he had birds yet? It sounds like a lot of run and not much hunt. Growing up my parents had dogs that if you opened the front door they were doing 20mph down the road and never look back.

I never said those guys had it easy. I said they have it made! And what i was trying to say is that their fathers were great field trial trainers /handlers and with that they have a much better chance at becoming one also. I would have loved that chance but my dad was a roofer. Im not taking anythin...

I was reading a article on the past field trialers such Gates, Mack and Crangle just to name a few and those guys had it hard. Driving from tennesse to Canada In a model A on dirt roads that took them 14 days and sleeping on the side of the road! they started with nothing.
