First of all pen raised quail are not always the best training birds. Second, pen raised quail are usually better if the dog is still on a check cord. Third, if you are using pen raised quail you might quit and go right to wild birds. If the dog is standing pigeons and behaving the way you want he w...

Sometimes with some dogs you just have to start over or back to basics. If this dog has all the prey drive and want to you need it is time to stop the chase. How you go about that is up to you. There is nothing to be gained by letting him bump birds.

Gone hunting makes some good points. That war of wills mentioned is self induced in most cases. Start with a well bred pup. With a young dog you might want to hunt alone or with one gun if you take someone along. As garrison stated only birds handled properly should be shot. I believe the more birds shot over the dog the better and the more you take her out the more progress will be made. If you have fun the dog will too.

You might want to try another vet. Find out if she is bred and at her age you might consider getting her the shot. Once that is taken care of she will come back in and you will have learned how to handle that situation.

Why would you leave a rattle snake alive in an area you hunt or run your dogs. As stated most dogs are hit while running by the snake. I kill them when I come across them.
