Re: Pigeon Loft Flooring

I have been racing pigeons for over 9 years. I have a solid floor and I placed pine needles over the floor. The needles have a resin that bugs do not like but are not harmful to the pigeons ( needles keep the dust down and droppings stick to the needles for easy clean up). Also, I have wooden grates...

Do you determine the sex of your young birds? I am in the LA area and thinking of starting a new loft of birds. A hawk got into my loft and killed all my good breeders. Need to shoot the rest and start over. You are near Downey, right?

You have a great dog chasing birds at that age. I have seen other dogs that are not as near in prey drive what you have on that young dog. You have to understand that your dog is pretty young and sooner than later those chukar are going to teach your dog to be more careful when " the light comes on ...

follow these steps for training your young birds and is about 95 % bullet proof. I have been racing pigeons for a while. 1. let young birds fly on their own. Don't push them. 2. once young birds start flying for about 45 to 60 minutes around your loft, then you can start to road train them. 3. start...

The reason I banded homers is because I flied in a racing club, without the band racing pigeons can not be enter in the races. The band is for identification purposes. It all depends. If you are racing your albino pigeon, the pigmentation in the feathers, it won't last that long due to the lack of pigmentation compare to the darker or gray pigeons, but they sure look pretty. The white pigeons attract or are seen by the aerial predators more easily.

I would say keep exposing the young dog to hunting and whatever new experiences that woods would throw at you and your dog. As longest the dog dose not feel negative to the new experiences.
