I agree with other posters that small bag of food would be the route I would go, but if memory serves me correctly, when I made my own food i think calcium was achieved through egg shells?!?!?
I used ice cube trays and made frozen treats that i would give the dog alongside his raw mix.

Re: Finding my young pup some wild birds
At 8 months I wouldn't worry about just finding wild birds. He just needs "birds" and the more the better. A local game farm would be convenient and probably less expensive. Then during the season you can get him on the real thing . At his age even pigeons would be a good option. Don't worry about ...

I would bite the bullet and buy birds. I too have a 4.5 month old pup and while the thought of releasing $5 bills into the air to fly away right now is tough to swallow, it is all part of the game. Can always try catching your own pigeons? There are a couple NAVHDA chapters that serve SE Wisconsin/N...

Your pup is only 3 months old, an infant. What do you expect to achieve with such a little guy? You don't need to worry about bird work for 3-4 months yet, and even then there is no hurry. Doing too much too soon can mess him up faster than being patient and giving him time to grow up a little. You...

No birds, no bird dog! Pigeons are the answer..............Always fly hard and you don't need a dog training license. I couldn't keep homers in my yard so I buy them for a buck apiece from the local pest control company, they trap several hundred pigeons a month and always have some available. When...

I'm assuming you are training a GSP to point not flush. If he's aggressively chasing and catching clip wing birds, I wouldn't let him catch any more birds. I'd give him some time ( a couple of months at least) in the field and yard training (recall, heel, no,kennel, etc), to gain confidence and som...
