Re: Heat Stroke
A good reminder. Thanks for sharing and I hope the dog gets well soon and has no long term affects. I took my GSP out yesterday for some preseason training here in Las Vegas. The temp was about 100 degrees. By the end of our 30 minute training session, my dog was exhausted. The heat can really take ...

Re: Jeep Wranglers and Hunting?????
Well, I'm officially a Jeep owner! I bought one yesterday! 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4 door. It has a 4" teraflex lift with fox shocks on 35" Mickey Thompsons! On board C02 tank, smittybuilt bumpers with winch. HIDs all around. Navigation, leather, fully loaded! I'm glad to be a part of t...

Wranglers do not get good MPG. 15-16 MPG... but their off road capabilities are unmatched!

Re: Jeep Wranglers and Hunting?????
Thanks for all the response and input; it has been helpful. I think I am going to go with the 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4-door). I went to the dealership and put my dog kennel in the back; it was large enough for me. I am excited to be able to go hunting this season with the top off and be able ...

Jeep Wranglers and Hunting?????
I am considering getting a Jeep Wrangler (2 door), however, I am worried that there is just not enough room for all my hunting gear, guns, etc. Does anyone use a Wrangler for hunting? Do you wish you had something else? I'm interested to see if anyone has been able to fit a kennel or dog box in the ...

Re: Please Help!?! I don't know what to do...
This reminds me of my situation with my Boxer. My Boxer suddenly changed from an energy filled dog to a sad dog that just lays down all the time and look depressed. She even seemed hurt for a while. She would not even jump on the bed anymore. I took her to the vet and they did all sorts of tests, bl...

Re: How to control a dogs range??
A couple of questions. If the dog was with a trainer for 60 days and won't stand birds reliably and won't come very well when called, what did he learn while there, or what did the training consist of. It sounds like you have a great prospect that a grouse hunter would kill for. I would get him to ...

Re: How to control a dogs range??
Also, you say take him out of hunting situations until he holds point better. I thought it is good to get the dog in as many hunting situations as possible... Isn't that the best training? He has the foundation for training. He trained for almost 2 months with a professional. My plan now is to hunt ...

How to control a dogs range??
My GSP is starting to range a little too far for me and he's not good enough to hold point for a long period of time. How can I control his range until his hold gets stronger? He also loves to go into the deep cover, which he does me no good in. Even if he finds and points a bird, i could never get ...

Where is the best city to live for bird hunting, hands down?
If you could pick one city for great bird hunting, where would it be?
Where would the best city be for great bird hunting, great family life, shopping, movie theaters, ect. All the great benefits of a city, with bird hunting near by? Fishing spots would not hurt either

What level do you use on you're Tritronics classic 70?
I am able to use level 1 or 2 when training at home, but I am finding when I am in the field hunting, I need to use level 4 to get my GSP's attention. It's like he is super focused and low levels do not phase him when he is chasing a bird or other trash behaviors. Is 4 too high? What is your opinion...

Crate Size for my 1 year old GSP
I recently got a 1 Year old GSP. I have other dogs and I have a crate just laying around. It's 33"longX18"wideX25"Tall. The dog seems to love to be in it. I see a lot of people use a 36" crate though.
Do you think I should get a bigger one, or is 33" sufficient?

Re: Planted Bird vs Wild Birds on a young dog
Well, turns out my dog will not be going to SD. Spoke with the trainer today, and he says that the dog is just not ready. Tri Tronics Classic 70 vs Tri Tronics Field 70 (difference?)
Tri Tronics Classic 70 vs Tri Tronics Field 70 I am looking to buy an e-collar on ebay. I came across a Tri Tronics Field 70 (Not Classic 70). Is this different from the classic 70? What is the difference? It seems to be much cheaper. I e-mailed the seller and he told me it is 12 years old. I'm thin...

Re: Could neutering a dog affect his hunting skills?
Problem solved... I spoke with animal control about my concerns. They told me they would work with me and not to worry about it. They said if I get a fanciers permit, that I could keep the dog intact. I guess a trained hunting dog is reason enough to have a fanciers permit. Sucks I have to pay the g...

Could neutering a dog affect his hunting skills?
I am curious to hear some of your opinions. Could neutering a hunting dog affect his judgment, attitude, or skill in the field? I live in Las Vegas, and, unfortunatley, they have a law that requires you to neuter or spay your pet. There is no way around it other than getting a breeders license or ju...

I'm new to the forum and new to the German Shorthaired Pointer world. I recently got a GSP from great bloodlines and he seems like a great dog.
