It would be fairly likely to pass. The gun lobbys don't care about hunters and the population is going more toward neutral on hunting. Be careful with this because correction can lead to not liking a bird in mouth or worse.
At its root--this is a pack thing.
In some way with care, the pup needs to know that you are alpha and you are displeased with that behavior.
If it is just a particular dog--its easier.

I agree with the practice of teaching dog and owner together for a number of reasons.
I also agree that your trainer guy made big mistakes...sounds bad all around.

Looks like one of my changes will be get rid of the quail and go to pigeons. Plus keep her on a lead. Thanks Yup....and a strong release. Its important that the birds get up abruptly, in my opinion. I have had much better results using pigeons over quail, but nothing beats getting a pup on wild birds and after some basic training--just let the birds bring out the natural stuff from the dog. I feed PPP for adult and puppy and for the puppy, I stick with the suggested amounts while monitoring for any changes needed.
With my setters, I want to see a puppy's ribs and lots of energy.

Yup---you can do that, but then you have to switch dogs. I use it in the manner I described...a button for each dog and then the middle one assigned to one of the two dogs as I see fit at the time.

I have two collars and use it as was described. I would not want to be without it. It reduces stress over a dog that can't be seen and is a safety tool as well.
