AKC Open Derby

I know most folks on here don't play the AKC game, but my pup Hunter and I won an AKC Open Derby Walking stake at Percy Priest WMA outside of Nashville over New Year's weekend. I was very happy--it was my first time handling in a walking AKC field trial. The trial grounds there are great if you ever...

Looks good, Gary! I hadn't seen the full pedigree on your boy before.

Re: Pup Growls at people (HELP)

What are you doing when the puppy growls or acts inappropriately? Are you nervous or apprehensive when a stranger goes to pet the pup--that can make the pup nervous or apprehensive and in turn act out.

Re: What breed to buy? NEW GUY NEEDS HELP!

Buy a finished dog that is about 4-6 years old. With a one year old child, your training time will be limited. Get one that has been around kids--maybe a dog that didn't trial as well as the breeder wanted or someone that is getting out of the game. As far as the mess, any dog is going to track dirt...

Re: Pup has worms

I worm mine once per quarter with Panacur (fenbendazole). Hooks and whips are a problem here in AR especially if the dogs get in mucky water or we have a wet spring or fall. The eggs live in the soil. I use Ivermectin as HWP so don't have problems with rounds. Rounds are pretty normal with pups and ...

Re: Does anyone run puppy hunt tests/trials in texas?

Not sure where in TX you are located, but there is a nice Brittany club (I'm assuming you have a Britt--you mentioned you tried to contact West TX Britt club) near Lake Eufala in Oklahoma--near Choteau, right on I-40 east of OKC. They run a hunt test in late Feb. Nice people and also open to all poi...

Re: Junior Hunt Test Equipment

Taking your dog with you helps. Seriously, I went to my first 2 hunt tests this spring--I was running in Juniors. I was very impressed by how nice and helpful everyone was and encouraging and all of the positive attitudes. Take plenty of water for both you and the dog, snacks for you, some food for ...

If you don't like that pup's tail, give him to me. I'll let him hunt with his nose.

Re: pointing form

One of my setters is a Llewellin and he "sets" like in the old days. My other setter will "set" some and other times points with a nice high 10:00 tail. I took him to a seminar that was more geared toward retrievers than pointing dogs and he "set" a pheasant wing. The trainer and I were very proud (...

Re: Chevy Avalanche

If you are in the market for an SUV with a small bed and like GM products it's probably a great choice for you. It's more Tahoe than a truck. Dont expect to pull a fifth wheel trailer or it to have capabilities a real truck would have. I'm keeping my "real truck" for hauling and pulling--sometimes ...

Chevy Avalanche

I am looking to get another vehicle in the next 6 months. What does everyone think of the Avalanche? I know 2013 is the last year for them--I'm not looking to get a new vehicle anyway. I am keeping my 2005 Chevy Silverado that has 240,000 miles on it and is still going strong. I have a GSP and a cou...
