Re: Gunner or Ruff Tuff

Gunner kennels are very well designed but very heavy. Not something you'll want to move around a lot but great for a dedicated spot. RT is more versatile. The doors can open either direction & the double door option can be very handy in a lot of situations. The only down side for me is there is that...

Re: Speaking "HUNTING DOG" fluently and correctly.

Bird dogs: The primary focus of the dog is "the bird". The best pointers & setters (IMHO) are "bird dogs". They run big and fast w/ only one thought in mind- bird finding. Only when they cross a scent cone do they freeze & possibly wonder "where is that guy who feeds me?" Gun dogs: The "gun dog" hun...

Re: Which lab belongs to who?

Google " British Lab Pic" and then " English Lab pic". These are the first two images that came up in each respective search. I'm not arguing that these terms are necessarily meaningful, just trying to help clear up confusion when discussing them. As for my statement that they are effectively differ...

Re: Which lab belongs to who?

In most sporting breeds (Labs, Springers, Cockers, Goldens, etc.) there are dogs that have been bred for field work (field-bred) and dogs that have been bred for confirmation shows (bench-bred). The AKC registers them all as the same breed but in reality, they differ in every aspect of what separate...

Re: Which lab belongs to who?

The confusion is between the terms “British Labs” & “English Labs”. “English Lab” refers to the heavy boned, blocky head show dog “British Lab” refers to dogs with pedigrees having UK field trial titles. You can’t tell a difference from American field-bred labs by looking but they are marketed in th...

Re: The Spaniel Spot

Right-On! Training is the one factor that gives a dog an edge in learning how to follow the direction the bird takes when flushed. Training develops the strength needed. I have a theory that smart dogs learn to “estimate” the distance to the fall in these scenarios based on the time between flush &...

I'll add another feature I really like about the wing works vest is the loop on back for carrying the clothes you strip off as you warm up.

The Paul French Vids i have watch tells me there is an extreme amount of handling goin on! The last few years i have noticed an astonishing amount of handl...

Re: The Spaniel Spot

This was the Springer Championships in Jan 2014 ,curiously enough the Cocker Championships this year will be held on the same ground,so it will be nice to see what the Cocker's make of it ? ........ I don't have any facts or figures or even a 'guestimate' regarding missing game but it is a disquali...

Re: The Spaniel Spot

I think that I'd be okay with it, but I don't know if that's my final answer. I think I'd definitely still want Cocker only trials and Springer only trials; but I'd certainly like to have an opportunity to run my Cockers against Springers and feel that we'd hold our own. There'd be some pros and co...

Re: The Spaniel Spot

Good luck Jordan. I'm not much of a Facebooker but I do keep up with your successes.

Actually, I have heard some talk about combining Springer & Cocker trials w/ pretty heated opinions on both sides.

Curious what you'd think?

Re: Snake in the yard

I've had multiple friends that had dogs bit after being vaccinated & snake proofed. Most of the time the dogs survived but not always. I still do both (vaccinate 2 x yr & snake train whenever the opportunity arises). I have too much invested both financially & emotionally not to do what I can. As to...

Re: need names of English Springer Spaniel breeders.

There are some excellent breeders in PA your friend should visit. Tim & Billie Edwards of Fast Track Springers or Janie Haworth of Pheasant Feathers would be a good start.

Re: Spaniel Hunt Tests

Spaniel hunt tests in Texas are held by: North Texas Spaniel Club in Decatur, TX Heart of Texas Spaniel Club in Manor, TX. and I believe this year the Houston English Springer Spaniel Club is holding a sanctioned test in Huntsville. The Spaniel Hunt test is not a serious event like a Retriever test....
