Re: Let's see hunting shacks

Finally getting around to posting these. These were taken around Christmas, when I had it nearly completed. Pretty happy with how it has turned out. I'm especially proud of the one wall, covered with old tin from a barn roof. It's about 5 miles from a state park that offers pheasant hunting, and abo...

Re: Anyone ever experienced this on a hunt? (GSP kills Coyote)

While hunting once with a couple of buddies, our dogs -- a draht, a GSP and one of my spins -- got interested in a brush pile. You could tell there was something weird about the situation. The dogs seemed uptight, then angry. Then a coyote busted from the pile, and the dogs gave chase. We managed to...

Re: Let's see hunting shacks

Part of the deal for the place involved the lady getting rid of a junk mobile home. One of her relatives has been stripping the metal from it. But the other day I went out there and discovered this: http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g338/brianillinois/unnamed-2_zps2491136b.jpg I suppose that's one...

That relationship does raise a red flag, but it's maybe not inherently evil. I've been thinking about it too, Don. I just recently got 100 acres of creekside property, mostly timber, only about 14 miles from home. Deer, turkey, an area for field training and even a pond suitable for water training. The dogs even found a covey last weekend, and I wasn't expecting quail. So I'...

Excellent. Thanks for your help, guys.
I've just about got the coop finished. I'm gonna need to order the bobs online (I was hoping the farm store carried them). Then I'll throw in a few pairs of birds and start hoping for eggs.
Toster, what is the purpose of the PVC pipe in your coop?

Rich, if it were up to me alone, I'd go bigger. But I'm pushing my luck already at 4x4.
And for bigger training days, I've always got the pigeon guy. I'd just like to be able to quickly grab six or eight birds when I've got a free hour or two.

I know it's been asked before, but can anyone give a quick answer on how many homers could live in a 4x4x4 coop, with an attached wire mesh aviary? Re: Tricks for trimming nails ?

One tip: Sometimes the dog will struggle less and be less scared if you lift the leg backward, instead of forward. Sort of like the way a horse's shoes are done.
And when you're looking at the nail from the underside, it's easier to tell how much is safe to clip.

Pointing deer? So, is there a deer nearby, hiding in some brush? Or is the deer just standing there? I can't imagine a deer sitting tight, not bolting, if a dog and a guy taking pictures are that close to it.

Your pup is doing fine for his age. And yes, at this early stage, there's no harm in letting pup play with a few birds. Put a few crippled pigeons or quail in a field and let him go crazy. But don't overdo it -- a couple of sessions should be enough. As for the curious-type of point: A spin does hav...

You said you plan to fill the pool with dirt and grass. As in, grass that is growing? For it to grow, or start to grow, you'll need to water it. And if you water it, you'll need drain holes. And the pee will leak through the drain holes. I'm thinking your pool will turn into a stinking mess pretty r...
