Re: No interest in birds.
I haven't had to try this with either of my dogs, but someone told me it worked: Stake the dog in the middle of a training field, then bring in another dog that hunts. Plant some birds and, with your dog watching, go crazy with praise and excitement for Dog No. 2 when it does its thing.

I've got a Reese Outfitter. It also has a ball, so that you can tow something as well. I used it to haul bikes and tow the popup at the same time. It's not rated for towing a heavy trailer or camper, but it'll tow a popup. Not sure that model is made anymore. Whatever you choose, make sure it has a ...

I used the high-pitched yelp on the new dog. Wife and daughters thought I was nuts, but it seemed to work. Make it a serious yelp, like the pup really hurt you.
It seemed to work faster than the lip-bite, which I used on the brittany when she was a pup.

The last time I posted pix, someone asked for video. Apologies in advance for the shakiness -- it wasn't easy trying to film, control launchers and shoot. Plus, I ran out of memory on one of the two points, before I hit the launcher. And please don't beat me up for the lousy, one-handed gunwork :D ....

The hair doesn't seem to bother her at all. If you look at the middle picture, her eyes aren't as obscured as they seem to be in the first and third pictures.
I wondered the same thing, though. I'm not sure how I would go about cutting it, if I did try. Maybe Sal can chime in.

Last year I went to Mucks, after swearing for years that I'd never hunt in rubber boots. Very lightweight, waterproof and more comfortable than most lace-ups I've worn. I have two. There was a lot of grab-assery for some time, but it's calmed down dramatically. One advantage of having two dogs is that they're often able to entertain each other. And it's fun watching them interact. It's interesting how they pick up quirks and habits from each other, yet they have th...

Re: Meat free diet for dogs
Look in the thread about HSUS. That's where this sort of thing is hatched. I'm sure it just tortures those folks, to think that one animal would eat another.
If they had their way, it would be against the law to give your dog any food that contains meat.

I'm hoping it comes out the back door, and not the front. If she pukes it up in the house, and the warden sees it, I'm in a boatload of trouble.

During the morning's run, my brittany caught a baby rabbit. Before I could get it away from her, she gulped it whole. It was about the size of a baseball, maybe slightly larger. SpinoneIllinois and Deuce hooked up early this morning to let the pups have some fun finding birds. The pups ended the day with a cool swim.
