Guys, get yourself a gator or a 4-wheeler. A couple of folks I know have them and are still running dogs off them. A lot less trouble than a horse, less maintenance too

Re: Tri-Tronics transmitter?
Update; (Thanks ACooper) Called Garmin TT this AM. They still have refurbished Pro series controllers but the supply is not unlimited. They really wanted mine on a trade in and the price was comparable. So apparently they are still supporting these units, for now. Don't know why I was told years ago...

Re: Tri-Tronics transmitter?
Thanks Guys; I've traded in 1 controller with TT years ago, but the last time I talked to them they had changed to Garmin and said all the Pro series trainers were replaced by the Pro 550 and everything else was obsolete and no longer supported. I'll try them again to be sure. Collar Clinic would no...

Tri-Tronics transmitter?
One of my TT Pro 100 G-3 transmitters is acting up. Both are around 7 years old. I think the problem is the little "bat handle" switch that selects the collar that receives the signal. Black/red/blue. Blue works fine but black and red tone together. I re-married all 3 collars a couple times, but sti...

Re: Pigeons in cold weather
Thanks ezzy, good info. My birds get extra feed during the cold weather too. The question about the water is good too. My lofts are too far from electricity to have heaters so they only get watered when they get fed. Seems like they are more interested in bathing than drinking too! No nesting happen...

Used this one from Gun Dog Supply. I modified it to fit my needs by adding an aviary on the back with a trap above the aviary. If you add the trap, make sure you have some way to keep the varmints out!!!!

WOW. Between this and the pigeon coop post.
Sounds like you're a lucky guy, you've got a pup with a lot of potential. But its still just a pup.
Please try to find a club or pro near you and get some help. A mentor with years of experience is priceless.

New postby DonF » Thu Jun 26, 2014 8:28 pm Aiding recall isn't necessary. I have never had to do that. Don't run young birds out. Open the bobs and let them come and go for awhile. If you have an aviary and use it to teach them to push the bob's up there's no problem. Where people get into trouble g...

Re: New pigeon coop
Good job. Looks like a "Scott's" design. I built one just about like it, only yours looks a lot nicer. I used OSB and painted the outside. I put the aviary on the back side and the trap above it. The nest boxes are on the left inside and perches on the right. I have 17 never flown young birds in the...

Do you folks use your birds in the spring?
Seems a lot of the birds don't or won't recall because they try to pair-up. They don't come back to the JH and are lost to varmints.

Calico's Lady Belle lived to 12 and did it until she died. Helluva good dog, BTW, a field trial reject. Had a cannon for a nose, could run all day, and over the hill honest. Belle would stand on a bird for as long as it took for me to find her and get to her. Amazing, how those "field trial reject" ...

Make sure your loft is "snake-proof"! I've lost 3 chicks around 4 days old so far. Only thing I can figure it was a blacksnake. Nothing else could get in or out. Haven't bothered the eggs yet. I know blacksnakes love eggs too. Just finished 2 new "snake-proof" coops, but can't move the nesting birds...

Re: add-on to pigeon coop
What I did was put a hinged down door on the inside from the coop to the aviary. I run the pigeons out of the coop into the aviary then close the door trapping them in there. Reach through the aviary door and catch them. The aviary is small enough for me to reach all the birds and is small enough to...

Barn cat got in through the trap door and killed 3 birds. It couldn't get out either.
Make sure you close up the trap before dark. No more trouble.
Oh yeah , The cat didn't make it .

Wood , plastic ? What species ? Sometime you can get away with painting them all like hens (neutral) and they work fine. Depends on how fancy you want to get. Make sure whatever paint you use its flat. Wood decoys , no problem. Plastic decoys , get any loose paint off. We always gave them a base coa...

Try Smithwicks if you like the darker beers. Not as "stout" as Guinness.
