Re: Uplander Dog House
Does anyone know what the temperature rating is on these boxes? I am considering buying a couple for my pointers but it gets below zero on occasion and I am wondering at what temperature I’d need to bring them in but it doesn’t say on any website and I can’t seem to get a straight answer from a reta...

Re: Permit process to guide on NF land (and other public land)
There's no such thing as the "forestry service". It's the US Forest Service. Just sayin'... And ya, there are some hoops but I did some raft guiding with my brother when I was younger and it wasn't that big a deal. Some paperwork, insurance (which is relatively cheap), and 3% of revenue generated (w...

I thought my female was coming in season. There seemed to be swelling and even a little bit of blood. It lasted only about 4 days and then stopped. Anyone ever experience something like this? Should I be worried?

Chilled fresh semen and regular AI are what I am considering. Sounds like folks have had some success and I'm looking at about $1000 when all is said and done. Thanks for the responses. Appreciate it.

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with shipping chilled semen and doing AI. What did the whole process cost? What were the results? Thanks.

Re: Dog checking in a little too often
Most dogs will become much more aware of their handler in the breaking process. How was he as a young dog? If he didn't range much before you "broke" him, there is little chance you will get a lot of independence out of him now. Time, birds and experience with getting it right will give the dog con...

Dog checking in a little too often
My male shorthair is about 3 years old and has been dead broke for about a year and a half. I've hunted him the past two seasons and I trust that he's broke. I'd like him to start ranging and hunting a little further and not checking in so much. Any suggestions?

Re: Curled tail
Nice looking dog but I see what you're saying about the tail. Does it go straight on point? I guess I'd be a bit reluctant to breed her but if it's straight on point and you bred her to a dog with a nice straight tail then you might be alright.

So we went ahead and bred our female to the dog I mentioned in the last topic I posted. I picked up my girl a few days ago and now her eating habits are completely screwy. She no longer likes the food she used to love but prefers the "weight maintenance" food we give my wife's "athletically challeng...

So for those of you who have some experience doing this I have a couple questions regarding conditioning a pregnant female. 1) How long after the breeding takes place should I wait to exercise her? 2) How often and how much exercise is safe? 3) Is there any time during the pregnancy that I should st...

Mike, If she breeds on day 9-11 (standard from what I understand) that should put conception around the 2-5th of May so whelping should be right around the first week of July. Our bird season just kicked off and I took my two year old gsp out. He's holding point well (most of the time) and retrieving alright. For the past couple of weeks both of my dogs have this green goop in their eyes, especially in the morning. Because both of them have it and it's in both eyes I think I can rule out injury. So I went ahead and adopted a 2 year old GSP. All-in-all he's a good dog, very well socialized and has good manners. The big problem I've got is his recall and his tendancy to bolt.
