I have raised a lot of puppies of various kinds, beagles, hounds, labs, pointers, at my house over the years and I have never raised a gun shy puppy. I had hunting dogs for years before it ever even occured to me that I should be doing some kind of gun introduction. I think that I know why I have be...

I was at the NSTRA 'Dog of the Year', trial today in Amo Indiana. I am not a NSTRA trialer, but I live close by and usually try to watch a little each year. My first recommendation is to not keep him. If you do keep him, have his canine teeth pulled. The vast majority of damage done by a dog bite is done by the canine teeth.

Dogtra Launcher question
I have been using some old Scott pigeon/quail sized manual launchers for years. Last week I finally broke down and bought three Dogtra remote launchers. I got them home and took them out of the box and set them next to my old launchers in the garage. I noticed immediately that they are quite a bit s...

I think the definitive answer is, maybe. There are some dogs that naturally flag and I don't think there is any way to change them. The problem could, however, be coming from too much pressure. I have no idea what you are doing now or have done but you may need to take a step backwards in training a...

I don't know how big your son is, but the problem with a pump is reaching the fore end. The stock is a little shorter on a youth model but reaching the fore end is the issue. You will save yourself a ton of time, effort, energy, and stress, and save the dog a lot of stress, it you find her a new home as a pet. You can start over with another pup, and be a little wiser this time.

I believe that backing is pointing, it is just triggered by a stimulus other than scent. Generally the stimulus is the sight of another dog pointing, but many dogs will back the point mode of a beeper, or the sight of a hunter flushing, and I'm sure there are other examples. Backing is genetic, beca...

No, he would falsify the dogs whelping date exactly as they are doing now.

I agree it is important but you aren't doing that with a "flock" of pups. All they are doing is learning to go where everyone else is going. For the pup to learn to stay with you is for it to be thinking about you and not where everyone else is going. There has to be a one on one relationship for th...

There are so many variables in this that it is impossible to say. There are a couple of comments in this thread that I really disagree with though.
