Re: Gatta poop eater, any helpful suggestions?

Pineapple does work. I had this problem with a mutt when I was a teen. I added some orange peels and pineapple chunks in with food, solved the problem. It changes the taste, but I wouldn't recommend a taste test.

Re: Electric fence for dogs

. I have 3 strands around my bird pens. 6,12,& 18 inches. It keeps the coons, coyotes and dogs out. My dog could easily jump over but figures the risk isn't worth the reward. It's a big fencer that will keep a bull in(believe me it hurts). I never tried keeping her in the yard with it.

Re: Dumb question but I have to ask..

A friend cooked some coyote loins and fed it too us at a party, it was a big hit. We didn't know what it was. Later he told us and some people got upset but in reality, It's all mental. I would eat it again.

Re: North to Alaska!

On a second look, April to September? You aren't going to be able to get much bird hunting done in that time frame, are you? Well, I will be working for the first part of the trip. Grouse and ptarmigan season opens about the second week in August. I should be finished working by then. So I will hav...

Re: North to Alaska!

She will travel in the cab of the truck with me. I'll have the truck box with me, but 4000 miles is a long and cold ride.

North to Alaska!

My 3yr old GSP and I are going to be driving from Pennsylvania up to Fairbanks, Alaska to spend 6months (apr. to sept.) Looking forward to Grouse and Ptarmigan hunting. I dont really have a specific question; just seeking wisdom/advice. Thanks.

Re: Photo of the Day

First pennsylvania grouse. Her first day of grouse hunting ever. She is 3yr old.-- a great pheasant and turkey dog.
Second photo, was her 2nd day. bag limit is only 2 :(. 6 flushes less than 3 hours. thats better than average for PA. I had 4 hrs driving for only 3hrs hunting.

Re: What breed has your dog been mistaken for?

When I first got my GSP, the neighbor lady who is like 83 saw it and said. " well where did you get that ugly thing? Is that a stray?" I just faked a smile and walked away. It's 2 years later now and she thinks I taught a stray to do tricks (point).

Re: Dog Hunts only for me?

Thanks everyone for your response. I am happy with her but I am always looking to improve. I feel bad when people want to go with me, then they don't even see the dog work. -( that's my favorite part). Well I'm going to keep one of her pups maybe that will help too.

Re: Sores from hunting

If you keep using peroxide it will take forever. Neosporin works great as long as they don't lick it. Sometimes I use some blue-coat as an antiseptic. In fact I use it on myself. Works well

Re: Deer Question

I taught my gsp in pretty much the same manor as Ray did, at a young age. My dog is 2 now and if she jumps a deer she might take a few steps, (just because of the noise and movement) but one noseful, and she just continues on like its nothing. It has not affected her desire for birds at all. dogs ca...

Re: Dog taking off

I would start with the basics and do the same routine you do in the yard, just in a new location. Try to keep his focus. Even if you have to take a few minutes when you get to your hunting spot, do a few drills. A refresher in the field might save you from chasing the dog all over God's creation. An...

Dog Hunts only for me?

I have a 2 yr old female GSP that is coming along well. Her and I have spent a great deal of time afield. She works a little too close in tall fields, I think she likes to keep an eye on me. But adjusts her range when we get into shorter grass. However lately I have had some friends and family join ...
