Re: Bird Dog's anyone ever try to get out of this game ?
When I put my pointer down, I never thought I would get another dog. He was the best bird dog, and not only that he was so well mannered and just a true joy to be around. He truly was my best dog, I went a year after I lost him and finally couldn't take it anymore, so I got a puppy over 2 years ago ...

Re: Hunting grouse with flushers
Hunted grouse for years with Springer spaniels, great dog for the grouse woods, and also a very serviceable duck dog. You have plenty of warning before the flush if you know how to read your dog. As I got older I started hunting with a pointer, and I loved it. The main difference is on running grous...

basic obedience programs
I like the perfect start/finish and hunt Smith dvd's for setting up a platform for gundog training, but I feel that they offer very little for the basic obedience training. The first training a new puppy will see when I get it is puppy kindergarten. I like this for the socialization of a young pup m...

What is your reaction when he pees in the house, what do you do. Puppies are all different and he is very young yet, it takes time for there bladder to develop. When I got my first pup some 35 years ago, all the old timers would tell me to give that dog a raw egg once a week, and whenever you cook bacon pour the grease over the food, they had no scientific studies or anything, it is just they way they were brought up. I believe that back in the day, a man's...

You have gotten some great advice, only thing I can add is my belief in training, is to never give a command that you can't instantly correct, by either a check cord or an e collar. I see guys all the time call there dog, the dog doesn't come, guy throws hands up in air and usually starts cussing, l...

As mentioned victor is a good one, another one is fromm, and another is America natural, it is made at the fromm plant in Wisconsin. All three of these have good price points and are great food. Re: Field Conformation vs Show Conformation.
Elhew, Ryman, Hemlock, are just a few of the breeders I believe that would breed for looks and performance. Would these dogs win any field trials or show championships? A few would, but the majority would be a great representative of the breed and be great companion gundogs that were pleasing to the...

Re: Field Conformation vs Show Conformation.
I think there needs to be a balance, I see so many dogs that either run trials or show rings, either they don't look like they are supposed to, or they don't hunt. I tend to like the breeder that breeds for the average foot Hunter, one that strives for conformation and one that will hunt well for yo...

Just remember, patience patience patience. He is still a pup and it takes time and birds. Like Tonys said some dogs will learn how to cut off a runner, and it is fun watching them figure it out. Even though he is older, I would start him out just like a puppy. That means light work and keeping it fun, I would go back to the check cord, and only move on when he knows the command, then reintroduce him to the collar and keep the pressure light. Never ever give a command that you can not correc...

Another option for you also would be to build your 6x6 indoor kennel like you were thinking, but build it on the outside wall and install a dog door to a small outside run where he can go out and relieve himself. The dog doors are not that bad to install, but mostly your dog is still very young and ...

I agree with what everyone is saying, more exercise is key, but also I would get some good bones from the Butcher for him to chew on that might help in trying to destroy everything.
