I have never been able to understand clicker training. I just can't imagine saying nothing to your dog but click the clicker. Doesn't the dog need to learn commands before the clicker will work? If your away from home and don't have your clicker with you, how do you get the dog to sit? If it's off ...

Clickers are called "bridges". In operant conditioning theory, behaviors are broken down into Discriminative Stimuli (saying "sit" for example), Behavioral Response (dog sitting), and Reinforcement/Punishment. I have seen/worked with dogs that just get more excited the more you grab them or knee them. Although, some dogs get the message just fine. If I have non-spicy, dog safe scraps they get em'. I have made dog treats out of scraps: baked fish or peanut butter into em'. I find its easier to add vitamins and oils that way, and I don't waste leftover food. Am I going to make them a nice homemade pasta dinner, however... heck no!

Rather than rely on genetic testing; is there some kind of database that could be run by breeders and vets? Seems to me that reporting genetic issues with your own dog (hip displaysia, etc) to a central source would pay off after a couple generations. There could be a requirement that you must have ...
