Re: What gun dogs do you have and why?
This is a great thread, and a great question. My eldest is a gsp. I have him because when I got him that was a breed I was familiar with and my friend had a litter. I wanted a dog with a short coat, that would point birds and retrieve them. My other dog is a pointer. I wanted to branch out a bit and...

You know what they say Don? When it rains it pours. Things around here are going alright. Slim's leg is getting real close to being totally healed up, much of the hair has grown back in. I'd go with the SxS too. You can get a 12 ga. but then use 7/8 oz or 1 oz loads for now. 28 gauges are great too. I like a SxS for a lot of reasons, they are light, easy to carry and safe with an action that is broke open. But remind him to be careful, upon closing the action on a SxS it can be easy...

In the past my GSP has tried to beat me to the bird(s). Like you said, he would hold point nicely, then as I walk into flush he would take a step or even lunge toward the covey and rip them. In my experience, this was helped by a few items: 1. Never, ever fire a shot at birds that he tries to beat y...

I was using carpet samples from the carpet store, at a buck a piece I'd toss a few in and it worked great. Lately, I've been using some old bath towels, they seem to work fine. The dogs like them because they push them around however they want.

I've used Gunbroker a few times without any problems, of course, there are sellers to stay away from on there. There are some terrible refinish jobs that appear on Gunbroker too. Re: How many dogs can be trained at 1 time????
This is an interesting question. I would say for the experienced trainer he could have a lot of dogs he is training. You figure each training session should be kept short and sweet, for my dogs it is 5-10 minutes per. I'd assume a trainer would get 2 sessions per day per dog. So, I would guess that ...

For starters, I've never bred dogs but I've bred lots of cows to bulls that I had never seen. But I would think that the same would be true. Here is my two cents. Purely, FYI and IMHO: If you like pretty things then that would be a reason to go with the grade IV, if you just want a gun that will go boom and kill birds, save your coin and get the grade II. If you are willing to go with something other than I. Ugartechea, you can pick up a...
