Re: 4 month old Lab retriever does well, seems lazy. Help please

I knew the lab police would be all over that one. Best thing to do is never let your puppy act like a puppy at all costs and make sure it doesn't have an English accent because they can only retrieve to 30 yards. Have fun with your dog and new hobby you have plenty of time for training he is still a...

Re: 4 month old Lab retriever does well, seems lazy. Help please

My pup chomped on his first bird, I read Training with Mo, it is for pointing dogs but may apply. When he started chomping my natural reaction was to grab it from him, so he thought I was going to take it from him, natural reaction chomp more, then it became a wrestling match where you are saying no...

Re: how do you keep pigeons in town?

To home the birds have to either be hatched and raised in the loft or bought very young. If you get homers from some one else they will go back to their loft. Once they are old enough to fly you have to work them up to flying home. They have to be released around their loft to fly or plan on not get...

Re: how do you keep pigeons in town?

I would try to get homers but wouldn't fly them in the neighborhood, unless you have a lot of space between houses, your neighbors probably don't want them landing on the roof. If you start flying birds in a neighborhood you might be looking for a new place faster than you would like. If you get the...

So it sounds like I might be able to get away with training on the railroad behind my house when the durango RR isn't going through if I can time it right. Otherwise there is a ton of public land, maybe I'll call the local BLM office and see what they say, otherwise I'll just train on some of the c...

My dogs have always been house dogs when I am home and go to their kennel (dog run) while I am at work, bird dogs are pretty curious by nature and can get them self into trouble when not supervised so I do recomend a kennel when you are not with them. You should enter your dog in a field trial and just count finds, see if your theory holds water, who cares if he doesn't place just count finds compared to the other dogs. It would probably put your mind at rest.
