Re: early grouse reports from michigan
I've been moving broods in the 6-8 bird range, and have been moving broods in the marginal covers that I'm running in right now.
For me all the early indicators are looking like a good season.

Of the birds you listed, none of them will home reliably.
For a 20 mile trip you will want homers and you may also have luck with barn pigeons. Although I've had mixed results with the barn pigeons.

Re: can ground sniffers hunt ruff grouse?
It would seem to me that you have two issues that are leading to your dog not handling grouse well. The first is that is sounds like tour dog is crowding them, I'd bet it is not because he is a "ground sniffer" but because he just wants to get a little close. I'd go back to the training birds and te...

I've always fed Diamond Naturals chicken and rice.
I have one pointer that just would never put on any weight, so a month ago I put him on Extreme Athlete, I swear within a week I could see a difference. After a month, he is perfect on weight, and his energy is off the charts.
I'm sold.

You may be getting late, it is a two shot process, first one, then the second a month later. It is most effective 6 weeks after the second shot.
At least that is the way I remember it.

Re: Problem with pigeon eggs
Are you sure you have a pair?
Usually the male will "drive" the hen to the nest that he selects, it is part of the whole nesting process.
When I have hens drop eggs just any where, it us usually un paired hens or two hens that "appear" to be paired up.

I think you have two issues going on, the compass pointing in the wrong direction is your 320, if a recalibration does not fix it, make sure your software is up to date.
