Nothing against pointing labs, but if it were me I would look at the "ugly dogs", but that is just me, and I own a pointing lab. I have just seen to many pointing labs struggle that double duty, not saying they cant. just from the couple I have seen.

Well in my years of hunting with dogs, and training them, and guiding with them professionaly for years, what I have seen is that, alot of how the smell depends on so many factors, and those are not consistan either. I have two 7 year old females that are 55# apeice, and a 2 year old that 50#. One pup that has came from my line is 96#, he was a huge pup from the time he hit the ground till he left my care.The english german lines seem to be more heavier.

Kents are very good shell, that is what we sell at the preseve I work for . The kent #4 2/34 ,1 1/4 gram are "Rhino Rollers" they are awesome for chickens.

I own a lab/weimer cross and would own one again missed out on one this summer and kick myself ofr it! She is a awesome dog more desire than you can think of just to please me from both breeds it has been a great 8 yrs with her and will be hard she is looking at retirement pretty soon.

How big are the pheasants your hunting to need 3" shells? Dude 2"3/4 71/2s early season switch to 6 then to 5 or 4s if you think the later the season runs.No need for rihno rollers unless you dnit want to eat.

I have to reccomend the pella bird n lite I use it to guide with and love the vest to death.I also have a Mothers vest too, will take the pella it over it anytime.Shell pockets are really big enough.Still agood vest.

To be acurate a rooster can not be aged by his spur length, cuase the average life span of a rooster is 1 1/2 yrs to 2 1/2 years old.Now vols if your birds spurs were over an inch then that is a old bird.Never heard of a throphy pheasant, just if the bird was good enough to have stuffed.Only had one...
