Re: launcher help PLEASE
I understand on the launchers you should lead the dog in on a check cord across the scent and as soon as the dog has scent, then launch the bird when the dog makes any movement. I have done this and after about 15 bird experiences over several sessions, my dog is immediately pointing and holding. Ho...

Re: live bird training
Do you use a check cord to bring the dog in? If not I find it hard to see how close the dog is to the trap if I am a hundred yards from the bird when my dog goes running near it.

Brittany's shaken confidence
I have a year old Brittany, who for the last several months has on command, jumped onto my truck tailgate and entered her crate. Last weekend we were out in the field, and I don't know if when we got back to the truck if she was a little tired, or had wet paws, but when she jumped for the tailgate, ...

Re: Couple of Brittany questions
I was in your position eight months ago when I got my Brittany. I can second the choice on getting Rick and Ronnie Smith's dvds (I have all three). I also recommend Larry Mueller's book Speed Train Your Own Bird Dog. They have helped me provide what I think is a solid foundation for my dog. I take m...

Re: Knee problems
Thank you for the links, I now understand what my vet told me better. It is not as easy as the two year guarantee. I have two young daughters and the dog is the family pet. After eight months of working with the dog she is coming along nicely. The article I found from your link gives me more confide...

Knee problems
I have a ten month old Brittany. Lately her knee caps on the back legs pop out of place once or twice a week. The vet says it is a grade 1 out 4 grade (4 worse). Vet says she still has some growing to do, so maybe she will grow out of it, but more than likely will require knee surgery down the road....

Feral Pigeon use by date?
How long can I keep a feral pigeon in a 4'x4'x4' coup and still expect it to be a good flyer? For instance, once I catch a wild bird, can I keep it in the coup for a week and it will still fly strong, assuming it gets good food and water? Longer than a week?

Remote pigeon coop
I am thinking about a pigeon coop for about six birds to use to train my pup. My problem is I don't really have room for a coop at my house, but I have access to land about twenty minutes from my house. With the coop that far from my house I am not going to be able to check on it but probably three ...

Transporting birds with dog to field
How do you transport your birds to the training field? I am first time bird dog owner (13 week old Brittany) and this may be an elementary question. I have exposed her to live birds on two occasions. The first time I put the birdcage in the back seat of my truck and the pup in the bed of the truck. ...

Re: My attempt at a Johnny House
I know this is an old post, but how did your Johnny House work out? How did you make the feeder to keep feed from spilling all over the floor?
