Re: which e-collars for a Pointer?
it was suggested i use a "whoa pole" by a very experienced person. i don't take this suggestion lightly. he said i should use a real whoa pole rather than a tree or park bench. i have been using a tree in the back yard. what am i missing? what is not provided by the backing of a tree vs a whoa pole?

Re: which e-collars for a Pointer?
Just bought the SportDog 1825.
i'll use the George HIckox videos
thanks for the suggestions. i spoke to DT systems, and several other mfg'ers. i felt most comfortable with the SportDog guarantee and the vendor, Lyon Country Supply.

which e-collars for a Pointer?
i've been considering the use of an e-collar. we've open country and this e. Pointer can really cover some ground. my first choice is: the SportDog 1225. it is 3/4mile and It comes out of the box set up in MODE-1 (an 8-level continuous + 8-level momentary stimulation one dog collar with a separate t...

Re: Need a 3rd whistle
that is pretty much the type of whistle i'm using for the bird. other falconers are using morse code so that the hawk responds to one set of signals and the dog another.
i was thinking something along the lines of a odd tone. maybe an elk mating call or something.

Re: Texas Working Dog Preservation Bill Proposed
i'm new to the classification of dogs as working. looking at "working dogs" in this link i don't see that hunting dogs fall into this category. they are in the sporting group. http://www.akc.org/breeds/working_group.cfm we've one type of mastiff listed in that group. if anyone can think of a type of...

Just got a wicked sweet and smart three year old male English Pointer. i've not used a pointer before and have only been with people who've used dogs. i'm not familiar with this relationship between man/dog. the dog seems so smart that i just need to learn the commands myself. what i'd like this dog...
