Re: Interesting Day

Similar happened when I was a kid, we had SWAT in our backyard because of a hostage situation in the house behind us (East End Hamilton, so not surprise given the neighbourhood). We were all pressed up against my brothers bedroom window so hard that we cracked the glass pane, and the officer looked ...

Re: Tracking Style Bird Dogs? Where to find them.

Sounds like you're in the exact same boat as I am. I have a draht, nearing 13. She has been an outstanding overall, well rounded dog. But I live in the middle of the best grouse hunting anywhere, and have settled on a setter from Kyle as the next dog. The draht got me hooked on the tracking style, b...

Re: Looking to add a pup….

I got him 8 years ago from Kyle Warren. Kyle's a top notch breeder and trainer. His site is: https://paintriverllewellins.com/ Nice! We have a pup lined up with Kyle already. I really like how he's breeding his dogs, it lines up perfectly with our hunting style and what we're looking for. Kind of k...

Having previously owned Britts and now a setter, I would go with a setter. Without denigrating an entire breed, my setter is 10 times the dog either of my britts were.
Where is your setter from? Always looking for leads on good lines. PM me if you prefer.

Re: Am I Stressing Too Much?

Perfect Start Perfect Finish is an excellent program, and is what we followed when our dog was a pup. We were in a similar situation to you, being new to pointing dogs and training. I had a chuckle just now thinking back to the nights my wife and I spent netting pigeons under highway overpasses with...

Re: Am I Stressing Too Much?

Hey, where in Northern Ontario are you? I'm outside of Thunder Bay, Slate River area. I have no pigeons at the moment (our dog is almost 13, still hunting hard) - but I'll be getting a loft going in the spring, in anticipation of a pup. If you're in the area, I'd be happy to help you out in the spri...

Re: North Dakota - November 2013

Too funny, it's the tritronics upland sport basic G3 (I might have added a word or two in there), but looking at the photo I see what you're seeing, looks a lot like some yote call we have. And thank you! We had incredible weather except for one of the days, other than some strong winds. Had to work...

North Dakota - November 2013

I posted this yesterday on vdogs, but thought I'd share here too - we had an incredible time! Well, my husband and I headed to North Dakota for the first 10 days of November this past fall for our honeymoon. To keep things simple, as Canadians/Non-residents, we only bought licenses for upland huntin...

Re: New chainsaw

Stihl is overpriced and people just fall for the name as seen above. If you want a pro saw, Stihl is fine, as are any of the good companies. If you're looking for an affordable saw for farm/home use, the Dolmar ps420 is far and above better than what you get from Husky/Stihl etc for the same price. ...
