Wow! Those are great pics! So cool. In addition to being addicted to my bird dog I'm passionate about fighting. Love muay thai, boxing, mma you name it. If it's a combat sport I'm in. I've been doing martial arts since I was 4 and have been competing in the ring for about 5 years and hold 3 titles. ...

Re: Looking for a reputable trainer
Hi Joe, I also live in Bucks County, PA. We go to NJ every weekend to train with Bob Corsaro. Depending on where we are training its anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half ride which isn't bad considering sometimes it takes much longer to go to NAVHDA training days ect. Bob works with various b...

Re: Flea/Tick Preventative
No, Cleo didn't end up with any when she was over to play. But considering the size of your property and how it backs up to the woods ect I can totally see how you would have an issue with ticks. Your lucky you haven't gotten any on you. I think so far this season I have pulled at least 10 off of me.

Re: Flea/Tick Preventative
What about trying a tick/bug spray in addition to what your doing now? You can buy them at Petsmart or on the internet. We usually put one on Cleo before she goes into the field and have been relatively successful. I usually end up with more ticks than her.

Re: Ticks
We've been training all over Jersey the last few weeks as well and I have pulled at least two or three ticks off of me and our GSP each week. I found one that bit me on the butt cheek this past Sunday! What the heck! I must have picked it up while hiding in the field and throwing a dead duck out to ...

For what it is worth I don't feel the JH is a waste of time. A professional handler or someone with years of experience may disagree but as new handlers I thought it was a great experience for us. It gave us additional opportunities to run our dog with lots of people in the field as well as another ...

Re: She's in heat
When our female is in heat she tends to be a little off. You will notice it in little places for instance our girl Cleo doesn't eat as much, she seems much more needy, she doesn't run for quite as long, she breaks a little early, looses her patience much quicker than she would when she is not in hea...

Re: Whats does your dog do while you're away ?
We only have one GSP. She is 22 months old but has had free rein of the house since she was 14 months old. We have had zero issues with her destroying anything which I attribute to the fact she is exercised and stimulated everyday. We leave her toys to play with but I'm pretty sure all she does whil...

I make most of my GSP's dog treats. I realize that not everyone has time for this but I find she loves them and besides I love to bake. Hi John,
Schulhaus Kennel produces beautiful GSP's. My GSP Cleo shares some bloodlines with those pups. You won't be disapointed!

Re: PA law dealing with training with pigeons
I live in Pennsylvania and we had gotten wind about this from the place we get our pigeons from. Even just a couple of months ago when we would go pick up pigeons for training, people would be pulling in with box trucks and taking them 1,000 at a time. I assuming for shoots. But now we have to put o...

Re: Things to do with your dog in this heat
It's been in the high 90's here in Pennsylvania with awful humidity. So we take our GSP to different ponds, she gets homemade frosty paws, we set up a doggie pool for her and she goes nuts to get squirted with the hose. Here's some of her beat the heat summer fun: http://gsphuntingdog.blogspot.com/s...

Re: Getting started in Field Trails and Hunt Test???
Hi Swagg, We got our start because when we purchased our pup our breeder required us to run them in a NAVHDA Natural Ability Test. In hindsight it was a blessing in disguise because it forced us to have to train our pup. As beginners we weren't really sure where to start so this gave us an inital go...

Hello! Not sure where you are in and around Philly but Nockamixon State Park (near Perkasie in Bucks County) isn't a bad place to try. It's a state game lands and we hunted our GSP there this past fall and we take her there to run her from time to time. If you click on the link you'll see some pics ...

Our GSP kept getting yeast infections in her feet last summer and our vet prescribed us Mal-A-Ket wipes manufactured by DermaPet Inc. We would wipe between her toes top and bottom twice a day and it would clear it right up. Once it was under control the thing that eventually stopped the infections f...
