Since I started the thread, I will change the direction in which it goes. Neal, it is my understanding from others here that you have a wealth of knowledge about bird dogs. I want to learn a lot more about bird dogs and recognize my ignorance. You became the victim of more and more bad apples gettin...

Re: Carpet or straw in box?
Hotchkiss, One consideration is chewing bedding material. If they chew, straw is easier to pass and less likely to impact bowels then synthetic carpet material. Thanks! That is a perfect example of something that seems to be obvious, but isn't obvious to someone like me who is trying to make this m...

Re: Carpet or straw in box?
Neil, Why is it important to change the straw often and how often is often? I assume it deals with sanitation. I haul my dogs about two to three times a week from October through January. I am starting to travel more and will take a multi week trip next fall traveling to Monatna and then working my ...

Re: Carpet or straw in box?
Where do you travel and in what? SUV/truck camper shell vs open truck. Wire crate vs insulated dog box. What breed of dog? Pointer vs Chesapeake. Down to 40F with no wind exposure carpet is fine. Straw changed often is better if colder. Keeping them dry and out of the wind is more important than be...

Do you prefer release at shot or after command
This has probably been covered 100 times, but I will give you my experience. I have GSP and one is trained to remain steady after the shot until I tap him on the head or give him a verbal command. He does great. Another one of my GSP does not go to trials and he has been allowed to release from his ...

Reading one of the posts on here and it got me thinking about which sex one prefers to hunt behind. I currently have a 4 1/2 month old GSP male that I am working with to be a bird dog. There are times that I think he is really smart and there are times I think he is really dumb. I know he is still ...

Thanks for the explanation. I heard one of the judges out there filed
a protest against the other judge in that division. Are the judges
even unable to get along and adhere to the rules? New here - but surely
that can't be the norm.

Re: MTCK SIZE
Just by looking at it, if it is a slide in for a full sized truck, a 2 hole box is way bigger and way taller than you need for a bird dog. If it is a slide in for a mid-sized truck. it would be better but still way too tall. I had an older 2 hole slide in that had top storage. The top storage was n...

MTCK SIZE
I have been looking at these kennels and a few others. The MTCK SEEMS a lot large than it needs to be for a 55 pound GSP. I could maybe see it if I were hauling a 100 pound lab. Does anyone have a MTCK that could offer their opinion on the overall size of a slide in box?

I have not done a very good job explain my question. My thinking was there a certain number of AA AND Shooting Dogs that have been winning on the national level the last five years. I suspect so me of them have been bred. How many of those offspring are doing well in futurities or elsewhere.

Yes if the client asks them to they will, but I am fairly close to some folks who use a pro. They OFTEN chose to not run a FC dog in a weekend stake.

Neil, Try looking up the number of each breed registered for the year, too. Might could give an idea of percentages. But would you not have to know the number that are trialed?
