No pissing match... From what I've seen the weakest link it the chaingang is the snaps. Thats where i've seen most the dogs get loose from, in my limited experience :wink:

gspmo1 no quail do not reproduce like pheasants. Quail pair up and actually the male has a part in raising the chicks and will actually sit on the eggs as well. There are lots of options Chris. If you would tighten them with a pair of vice grips or even use some lock-tite they would hold. And I'm sorry my brittanys are to smart to understand that they can't pull there way off the chain... :mrgreen:

Scott that's how I set mine up also the ring for the stake is attached with a threaded link so you can move the stake or add to the chain depending on what I have for dogs... This has been an informative thread and has stayed on track who wouldve thought we could do it!!!

Rodney I had one already, its lost at the moment, that I purchased from LCS. It worked but was made of the lighter weight chain. Dave that is agood point to bring up. And actually our new National Champion Cash this year, was derby pointed and one his first stake which wasn't a championship but was and OAA hour stake with 36 starters then finished his FC by winning the National Championship out of 57 starters. So that is a go...

I'm going to make my chains of the chain 18 inches how far apart should I put them??? I searched the old topics and somebody said 6 feet between and that can't be right. I was thinking just 3 but probbaly 4 foot would be the right way to go...

The one thing with AKC events is that there are more amateur owned and handled dogs that don't even go to the nationals. For some its a long drive for there one dog. So there are lots of nice dogs out there that never even have a chance on the big stage. There are just to many variables to get a goo...

The only reason I ever feed that wet canned stinky stuff is if I have one that is finiky about dry. It has no more added you could accomplish the same by feeding extra dry. If she enjoys it softer add water to her food. For the record in your avatar your dog appears a little over weight. Maybe help ...

I'm sure most are measuring with a tape measure and that is really hard to get the actual height. A whicket (sp??) is the best and official way to measure them. If I were to guess most are shorter than what they measured. Tanner my dual prospect is on the bigger side but is probably 20" maybe 20 1/4...

I woukf guess the pheasant hunting will not be that great if at all. Depending on lots of things but the Sandhills area isn't very good for pheasant hunting. I will guess there to be thousands of prairie chiickens and sharptails. Let me know how it goes though.
