Not sure about MN, but out west I like BLM maps, along with a USGS quad for more detail if needed. The BLM maps cover a large area and designate private and public land boundaries. The Quads give more detail, but do not tell if you are on public or private land. When I am hunting a totally new area ...

How is the hatch looking? I have been hiking quite a bit in the Wind River, Teton, Wyoming and Big Hole Ranges this summer, and there seems to be quite a few young birds. Numbers are down, but we still have quite a few around here. Look in the wet draws early in the morning, start covering ground if they are not nearby. They seem to always be somewhere near the wet draws and watering holes, and they seem to prefer the "middle aged" sage brush. It is hard to desrcibe ...

My wife and I have had hunting dogs since we were married 15 years ago, and I cannot imagine not having one around! You will find yourself doing things (like driving to North Dakota twice a year) you would not do without dogs, just to get out and play with them... Here she is at 10 weeks, hard to be...
