cc - I have two Vs that I trial - one is almost done her AFC, the other is green broke and will run next season. Since Summer will never excel at the trial game, I'd like to try NAVHDA Utility. I've never done it, but there's a first time for everything!
I ran my Summer at the Weim Club of Greater Louisville and Kentuckiana Pointing Breed Assoc. combined hunt tests. Summer started Senior Hunter in September 2012 and finished with 5 consecutive passes - she began running Master in Feb. 2013 and earned two back-to-back legs her first weekend out, so s...
We drove up to the Weim Club of Greater Louisville and Kentuckiana Pointing Breed Association back-to-back trials in KY this weekend. Since finishing Cali's MH, our training has consisted mostly of re-building Cali's confidence and run... and it worked! Cali absolutely blew me away with her run in A...
This is how I like to start the season! I am thrilled to announce that my Cali finished her Master Hunter title (pending AKC approval, of course) with two passes this weekend - at 2 1/2 years old! Cali finished her SH in Jan 2012, at 22 months old and picked up her first 3 MH legs in a double hunt t...
Some shots a friend took of the dogs training last weekend. Cali is a 2 1/2 year old bitch, with FT placements and 3 MH legs. She's a fun dog to run, always works hard and has a blast. Jolie is Cali's littlermate sister. Ran as a puppy/derby dog and I have been working with her this summer for a fri...
I order it in bulk with my breeder and some other folks, which brings the price down We order about 20 bags at a time.
I feed the 28/16 (or 18?) to my non-working dogs, and the 30/20 to my trial dogs.
I have 5 Vizslas, 4 of which hunt - it has only helped my dogs to have others around! One of mine is 2 years old, with 3 legs of her MH and field trial placements. Adding younger, inexperienced dogs did not cause any setbacks in her training.
This is one of those subjects that you're better off doing your own research and coming to your own conclusion - everyone has a different opinion and feels very strongly about it! Read up (from actual medical studies and published articles, not just hearsay on the internet) and do what you think is ...
I admit to keeping the pink industry going... I have a pink whistle, pink NGDC hat, pink gloves, pink ear plugs and apink ammo pouch and a pink scarf in the winter.... Doesn't mean my dogs are any worse off :P I think that pink and blaze orange are a new fashion trend! For the record, my girls wear ...
His owner is in our Vizsla club and we all adore "Barty" - an amazing story about a wonderful dog. Watching him run is impressive, just gives you chills.
My husband and I hike, camp and canoe with our field trial/hunt test Vizslas. They love it, I love having a dog that keeps up with us and I have had no issues with any problems in the field. They are on-leash when required, but are great off-leash too - they seem to enjoy having something else to do...
Had a great weekend up at the Kentuckiana/Louisville Weim Club Hunt Tests in KY this weekend! My 2 year old bitch, Cali, earned her first 3 MH legs this weekend with most of her scores in the 9s and 10s, and one of the judges commented that she had some of the nicest runs of the weekend. She has bee...
Cali (Vizsla, almost 2 years old), ran in her second field trial this weekend. It was the WCTV's trial in Lavergne, TN. On Saturday, I handled her off of horseback for the first time, in OGD and should have kept my mouth shut. In spite of my over handling, she had a decent run and earned herself a j...
Yep - it doesnt 't make anyone look good. I'll recommend giving Trifexis specifically with the PM meal - thanks for the idea! We love the concept of Trifexis, but have had a high rate of vomiting with it (even when given with food). Have you seen that frequently, Cajun? We move a fair amount of Sent...
We love the concept of Trifexis, but have had a high rate of vomiting with it (even when given with food). Have you seen that frequently, Cajun? We move a fair amount of Sentinel/Interceptor' so hopefully Novartis gets their act together soon!
Congrats - we all know, if it can go wrong it will! Rooster and I are hoping to finish his MH this spring, just haven't had time to get him to the tests. Sounds like you guys are doing well with your dog - and I bet she's having fun too. Why don't you come on out to Missouri in March to start your ...
I'm very proud of my little girl, Cali. We ran both days of a hunt test, needing one more leg to finish her Senior Hunter. Unfortunately, on Saturday, Cali missed a dog on point and blew a back. I've never seen her miss an honor before, but we all know they save that kind of stuff until someone is w...
I also have 5 in my house. 3 Vizslas, 1 IG and 1 Chinese Crested. There is more hair, more dirt and more muddy paw prints. You feed more food, need more food bowls and more toys. However - I love having 5 and it is absolutely worth it to me. That being said - it's a very personal choice and it does...

The labeling on almost all NSAIDs will tell you that they should be used for short periods of time. I know literally hundreds of older dogs who are on a safe, daily dose of Rimadyl. Metacam cannot be used in conjuction with Rimadyl. There is controversy about whether glucosamine/chondroitin suppleme...
Vizslagirl, I see you are from Atlanta. I don't know if you are new with the vizsla breed, so forgive me if I am giving information you already know. Atlanta has an excellent and active vizsla club. I was fortunate to meet some of the members when I was down at a hunt test in Kentucky last year. Ch...
It's a good question - Cali, the female, is wearing her normal ID collar (the teal one), an e-collar and a "flash" or high-viz collar. All my dogs always wear an ID cfollar, just too lazy to take it off. Cali was wearing the e-collar because we were specifically training for Master Hunter level hono...
I rarely post anything here, but I am very proud of my little V girl, Cali! As background - Cali is my first bird dog, and my husband and I have been muddling through her training ourselves, learning through trial and error. She's far from perfect, but we're having fun. She ran in a Gordon Setter HT...
by VizslaGirl » Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:21 pm My only 2 cents... From someone who work in a clinic - we LOSE money on spays/neuters. funny,,, the clinic here does 20-25 dogs a day 5 days a week ,dogs are droped off at 8 and picked up before 1:00. the day i was there, 15 dogs were turned away for the nex...
My only 2 cents... From someone who work in a clinic - we LOSE money on spays/neuters. Most owners don't want/are not equipped to deal with intact animals - I would rather see those animals altered at a young age. I personally own both altered and intact males and females. It's a personal choice, ju...
I haven't read the replies to this - But I got my Vizsla at 6 months, after she was returned to the breeder. She had done nothing at that point, other than get crate trained. Within 6 months, she has learned all the obedience commands/skills required for competitive AKC Novice Rally, earned her CGC,...
I have a first-aid kit that fits in a small backpack that I wear out in the field. It contains: Novalsan Solution Saline (and syringes to flush wounds or eyes) Alcohol wipes Gauze Squares Vet-wrap Telfa Pads Bandage Gauze Elastikon Tape Hemostats Bandage Scissors Quik Stop - clotting powder Thermome...
I own 2 Vizslas, and work closely with the Vizsla Club of Metro Atlanta. I am also very close with my breeder and spend a lot of time around her dogs. I own 2 females (9 years old and 14 months old) and I love the independant nature of the V Girls! It's very true that the boys are the lovers, and th...
I would seek a second opinion -this looks very similar to a case of panniculitis (auto-immune disease) that we diagnosed not too long ago. I would consult a dermatologist, or another vet.
