Re: Memorable moments
One of my most memorable & satisfying moments was hunting on the Indian reservation north of us. We just started hunting a field and 3 guys jumped in front of us and stayed about 250 yards in front of us the whole way thru the field. At the end of the field, they hadn't fired a shot over their 3 dog...

I don't have a 550, But I have a couple friends that do. One of them told me you have to update the software on the controller and collar at least once a year to keep it up to date. Re: GSP Breeders
I'm a Brittany guy but, I have seen both Standing Stone's & Odessey's GSPs. I have ran in, judged, and put on hunt tests where I have seen Standing Stone GSPs--they are very nice, easily handled dogs, dogs that find birds. They are more easily handled by new and part time trainers(IMO). I have also ...

Re: Trouble finding training birds
You might ask your Game & Parks Comm, In Nebraska the Game & Parks have records on who is raising game birds as they have to have a lic to do so. In Nebraska they will give you a list on who raises game birds and you can go down the list seeing who has them. You also might try the AKC pointing breed...

I always liked feeding my very active dogs PPP 30/20. They did very well on it. After they got older and less active, I would use PPP with the lower amount of fat and protein. Switch it over slowly from your dog food you use now to help avoid loose stools.

Re: Pellets???
I don't worry about it, because if you swallow a lead pellet, it will pass thru you system fairly fast(unlike a gizzard in a bird where it stays a long time until it's totally ground up). If you are really worried about it, switch to shooting steel shot.

Re: Do you always stay with the same breed?
I was mainly a pheasant hunter. I started out with Springers. I had 3 of them. I decided I wanted to switch to a pointing breed, so in 1988 I got into Brittanys. Since then I have owned 13 Britts and had 25 litters of pups. My Britts have all now passed on and I can no longer walk more than 200 yard...

Re: Pup hesitant to jump in water from Place
Finally, nothing promotes excitement in a water dog like live birds. I used to use clip wing pigeons. Throw them in a pond and let the pup chase. The clip wing will swim with it's wings. The shorter you make the throw, the harder entry you will build. Remember though, that for any confident entry, ...

This will give you a couple online breeder sites. You might look online at Gun Dog Breeders( this is where I used to advertise) They list a lot of breeders. You can narrow your search by breed & state. It will also list who has pups on the ground at this time. Since you aren't in a big hurry, I'd lo...

It's pretty simple how I fix my pheasant. All I cook are the pheasant breast. I fillet the meat off the breast and soak it in salt water to draw the blood out of the meat. I then drain it and put the meat into a zip lock bag that is filled with Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing. I let it marinate over ni...

You said in your post you had an e-collar on him. You need to start reinforcing the come command with your e-collar. Start this at home. I'm assuming you taught him to come at home by having him on a check cord and reeling him in when you called come. Instead of useing the check cord, use the ecolla...

I'm probably more concerned about my dogs staying warm on the long drives to and from December hunts than during the actual hunts. You said you have a garmin 550+ but the dog is too small to wear it.
