Re: Backing/Honoring Help
Im a firm believer that honoring another dog on point is not a natural behavior for bird dogs. I had the opportunity to train with a professional dog handler in az. 10 out of 10 dogs that he breaks all honor / back on site. Mainly because as others have described, this trainer will teach a pup by as...

Re: TO HUNT ALONE OR NOT
Alone, especially pup's first season. Last thing you need is buddies firing off 12 guages repeatedly around a new hunting pup. Once you get past that first season, be very choosy about who you hunt with. Some folks are not as careful with their shots as others. The dog's safety comes first for me, ...

dog in heat
I have a 1 year old female GSP that still has not gone into season. All of my other female dogs that I have had in the past have all gone into their first heat between 7 and 10 months of age. Curious as to when I should become concerned?

I hunt a lot in the high desert of Arizona. The first couple of hunts for a dog in this terrain should educate them enough to avoid cactus as much a possible. Carry a comb with you to aid in removing the cactus they do pick up.

I have been reluctant to breed her because I have been having so much fun with her hunting wild game as well ...

Re: When training starts to "click"
I live in Arizona and have the privilege of getting into the training field 2 - 3 times per week with a professional gun dog trainer. His training program traditionally only last three months. We tend to notice that for the first month the dogs are getting acclimated to their new surroundings and a ...

Re: GSP losing hair on his tail.
Not that I know of. The important thing is to figure out why he is losing hair, not just treat the symptom. Is there hair loss anywhere else? What is the vet saying? When I purchased him he was really red under his chest and always scratching at himself. I brought him into the vet's office and they...

GSP losing hair on his tail.
I have a 3 year old GSP. I purchased him when he was 10 months old, when i purchased him he had already lost some hair around the tip of his tail. It has been getting worse as he ages. Any thoughts on a lotion or cream that I can apply to try to grow his hair back?
