Re: UKC Trials
Well truth be told, due to my inexperience, I didnt take a call with me to the testing. Along with all of the other great people I met at the test, the judge allowed me to use her call. I hadn't thought anything about the color other than "this looks pretty manly" until reading your post. I didn't k...

Tucker passed his(and my) first Started Retriever hunt test!! I'm not going to lie, I was pretty excited. His first retrieve wasnt perfect, but he recovered and his next three were nearly flawless. Very pleased to meet several other owners, and everyone there was nothing but pleasant, supportive, an...

I will be doing it this year just not sure where yet. I have family up on the border or Iowa/Minnesota. I contacted them and wil...

OK, so an upadate. I took Tucker to the vet, white blood cell count in the urine sample was extremly high he said he stopped counting at 30+. Normally maybe about 5 or six he said should be there. Based on the concentration of the urine he said that he truely believes that it is an upper bladder inf...

He pees in the kennel/crate. The night time thing just bigger than the dog. I am using one for the first time. So he would never get the peeing is for outside concept he would just keep going in it. I have had several dogs, and never had a problem housebreaking, until now... I bought a pure bred lab, I am using kennel training for the first time. This dog pees in his kennel without hesitation. I can take him out, he goes, bring him in and within 5 mins he has peed on the floor again. I am up to...

I have some questions, not sure if it matters but I would like to get your thoughts on AKC vs UKC registration. He was here for just a short time 14 months, but seemed like ten years. Scotch passed away last week after his inquisitive attitude and nonstop drive got him into some bathroom cleaner. Scotch was my first dog that I had trained. A long way from finished but well on his way. He enjoyed every hunt an...

I figured I would start that way so you all wouldn't have a stroke, lol. Scotch in all of his intelligence, unlocked and unlatched the privacy gate and got out. He was struck by a truck. The driver stopped and sought help. He said that he hit Scotch in the head and thought he went under the tires. H...

Thanks! It was a lot of fun for me as well showing him off to the family and how far he has come. He was a bit of an attention seeker but it all worked out. He came home and was out all afternoon and night.

Re: Frustrated or accomplished?......
I don't think there is any point in disciplining a dog for an infraction, unless you are on the spot when it happens. If you yell at the dog 20 minutes after it happens , he may hang his head. He is not doing this because he has been caught . He is doing because he is picking up anger in your voice...

If your looking for ducks to train your lab also look for muscovey ducks.... people will usually give them away around here because they are always breeding and reproduce fast.
