Re: Hardest Gundogs To Clean Up After Hunting
I'd have to say a brittany.. Never had a dog so enthusiastic about rolling around in a dead deer, rotten fish etc..

Re: hard mouth
This is purely for polishing up her retrieve. She has not been force fetched and I don't plan to. She has retrieved somewhere in the range of 75 birds. She retrieves descent for a non field trial dog using a very strong 'here' command. I am planning on using them similar to pigeons for re-use.

Re: hard mouth
This is purely for retriever training. I have worked on pointing and backing for 1.5 years and now working on retrieving. I want to reuse live birds because she has a very high prey drive and has never retrieved a bumper etc.

I've read some other topics on working with a hard mouthed dog but I have a few specific concerns. I am raising some live birds this spring for training. beeper/e-collar brands
Hi everyone-
I am currently using a DT systems e-collar but found a great deal on a sportdog DSL-400 beeper collar and was wondering if anyone knew if you could link the DT systems remote to the sportdog collar?? I couldn't find anything from sportdog.

I put the e-collar on my brittany for a few days until I caught her in the act of digging a hole.. Had the collar turned up pretty high and burned her a** on continuous stimulation.. Never seen another hole in the backyard again. Now she just keeps figuring out ways to unlock and open the gates!

Whether there is a 10 or even 20 degree difference in weather from SC to wherever up north, either way you look at it, the dogs are going to get cold and that is the point of this thread I do believe (methods to keep them warm).

I would get him a good pillow to sit on next to a heater and get a Lab to do the work! I know everyone loves their dog but realistically even though the dog can do it, a retriever will do it better in colder water.I don't know that any of the pointing breeds have the under coat to protect them. Yea it worst on the bottom half of the gun (both sides) than the upward half towards the barrels. She uses her nose on other birds and usually will point a dove if we walk up on one, I just don't understand why she wouldn't want to retrieve it but she will point it. I guess now that I think about it, it probably is the loose feathers on the doves..

I took my Brittany in to vet this morning when I woke up and noticed her eye really red/swollen with some discharge. Mine is 54 pounds.. She was twice as tall as all of the other pups when I got her, most of her relatives are much less. I guess she was just the milk hog, she is still a solid dog, no fat, and run her about 5-7 miles 5 days a week.

Re: Spaying
I have hunted over spayed females. If they were already hunting, it won't change their desire to hunt. However, some may be prone to weight gain. I just watch how much I feed them, and cut back a little if they start to pick up weight. I have heard that females gain weight, and then I've heard it i...
