To Force Fetch or Not to Force Fetch?
My Brit now just plain refuses to retrieve anything. As a pup he would and through his first full year of hunting. He started getting selective when he would retrieve after the first year. I only hunted a few times his second season because of an illness I had that year. He always finds the downed b...

Re: Breaking on Flush?
Since I started this post let me just add. Most the adults we hunted with as kids didn't do much more training than the ole wing and fishing pole. My Dad my friends Dads were all bird hunters back in the day, I don't think there was much training beyond the basics, (point, fetch, here, load and sit)...

Personal preference, however I enjoy seeing my dogs in the grouse/woodcock woods steady to wing and shot retrieving the birds that are in the thick stuff, across creeks or wing tipped...I'll pick up the easy marks that I see go down. Out of curiosity what is the advantage of breaking on the flush v...

Just read in another post issues with a dog breaking during the flush and didn't want to hi-jack his post with my question. I'm 50 years old and as far back as I can remember all our dogs have broke on the flush. Am I the only one like this? I have always hunted with very responsible people and the ...

We have 2 or 3 places we pigeon pick that only require a 6 or 8 ft ladder. Our favorite spot we have been picking the last 2 years is an old restaurant/motel with a car port that the under side sheeting has mostly fallen off. The pigeons nest in the framing cavities making for easy picking. We go ab...

Saw a vet explain this on tv a few weeks ago. Said that dogs eat any poop, but esp. cat poop, when there is excess fats past in the poop and not absorbed by the animal who passed said poop. True/False beats me, i'm rolling with it just for the fact I don't want to think of my dog as one of those "pa...
