If you get down here before the end of February bring that pup with you. I have a little place in Falfurrias and would enjoy following some dogs around with you.

Looking for a wrangler
A few weeks ago I went to a filed trial in Freer, Texas. There was a wrangler there who did a great job who I believe was called Iggy. Does anybody know how to reach him?
A phone number would be great.

Big lesson for me!
I took my pup out on a cc to launch some pigeons yesterday and had a great session. Before we went home I broke out a lead and practiced heal with him. He was crowding my leg and was almost underfoot. I bumped him over with my knee several times to get him to take his position a little bit further ...

Re: Pro Trainer in Texas?
The place I'd recommend the highest in TX is Tina Carles & Tonia Doering at T&T kennels. Problem is they are out in San Angelo, which is probably further than you want to travel. Don't have a website but I can get you a phone number. How about that number, I can't get a website using T & T in San A...

Re: Snake training
i wouldn't be able to walk if I had the cojones it would take to defang a rattler. We shoot the head off a rattler and coil it up in a trail and bring a dog up from down wind. If it's their first time they will invariably go right up to it and sniff. It makes you aware of how vulnerable a dog is wit...

Re: good starting pistols
Got my Gun X from Dogs Afield yesterday and discovered it did not have a lanyard. I called the Gun X office and spoke to a very customer service oriented guy who told me if I would send him the pistol, he would install the lanyard for $25.00 and would pay the shipping to get it back to me. I didn't ...

Re: 2011 NGSPA Nationals
This is a little off topic but NGSPA caught my eye. I want to join the San Antonio GSP club but I wasn't able to get a message through to any of the email addresses on the site. Can anyone give me a phone number to call?
Thanks

Re: What holds Newb's back from Trialing?
I just got back from my first trail and had a blast. It was held at the Duval County Ranch just outside of Freer, Texas. I have never been around a group of friendlier, more willing to help people. There was a wrangler there who rented gentle horses so I got to watch all the events from horseback. I...

Re: Training for snakes
I have treated my dogs with an anti-venom serum manufactured by Red Rock Labs. You give the dog two injections thirty days apart with maximum effectiveness occurring 30 days after the second injection. I hope I never find out if the stuff really works but it isn't expensive and it makes me feel like...

Info for Freer Trials
Does anyone have any info on the GSP trials going on right now in Freer, Texas? I'd like to go but I can't find out where it's at. Is there somebody I can call?

Re: What holds Newb's back from Trialing?
Everyone's situation is a little different, church, kids activities, travel, money and just plain not wanting to be embarrassed in front of a bunch of people by an untested dog. In my own case, it's not knowing how to get involved. The entrants and judges are all busy as heck so who can a newbie sid...

Re: Can a novice compete?
I spoke to a couple of folks who were socked in in Ardmore, evidently the roads really got nasty up there. One guy I spoke to even offered to let me use one of his horses to watch some events in Freer so I'm pretty excited. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and encouragement.

Re: Can a novice compete?
I've got GSP's. I entered an older dog in an HRC event in College Station Texas and had a ball. There must have been 300 labs and my gsp Charlie. We got the first leg of his Started title despite the mistakes I made as his handler. Charlie is not from great bloodlines but we have killed a lot of bir...

Re: Can a novice compete?
Thanks for the input. I won't be doing it for anything more than bragging rights and until deseeker piped in, I didn't even know there was an amateur event. There is an event next weekend in Freer, Tx I'm going to and I'm sure I'll pick up a bunch there.

Can a novice compete?
I have hunted over dogs for years and trained a few with varying degrees of success. The lack of quail the last few years has cut back on my weekends with dogs and I was thinking about going to trials. I have a fine pup who came from good lines and I think he might be a candidate. For the sake of a...

Re: New Pup
Sunday night lil Pete wailed at me in obvious pain from being put in a kennel. Last night I put three toys in with him and he did great until he heard me putzing around the yard. I think the worst is over. What a great pup!

New Pup
I brought a nine week old GSP pup home last night and am trying to make him less apprehensive. Saturday night he slept with his eight brothers and sisters and last night he was by himself and howling. I know this is a transition he has to make but is there anything I could be doing to make it easier...
