Re: Some videos of 12 week pup
If it was me, I would make sure that my pup didn't catch any birds. That's what I was going to say - definitely don't encourage him catching them and you talk a lot. Let him use his nose, figure it out and not catch them. Do I talk alot? A little but it is mostly to encourage the pup. This is proba...

Re: Some videos of 12 week pup
Hey Guys,
got a couple more videos of the pup on birds. Some good scent recognition today and a nice point here and there too.

Re: Puppy selection...
One thing that kind of bothers me is that he would like me to come out Sunday like I mentioned earlier, but the pups will be 2 weeks old, and I am sure by 8 weeks old their attitudes will change from 2 weeks to 8 weeks, bit I could be wrong. Corry I would be hesitant too with making a choice at 2 w...

Re: 10 Week old puppy
Good Post. Rooster's comments are good ones to follow, and 4dabirds recommendation on the Hickox article is a good one. I would also recommend looking at the "Beyond 20 weeks" article as it reiterates a concise benchmark of goals a pup should have under their belt pre 20 weeks. People contact would ...

http://www.georgehickox.com/about_george_hickox_bird_dog_training_articles.html Read these articles they will be a big help ,specifically "first twenty weeks" and "whoa is not for the birds". A well balanced training plan that leads the dog step by step will help the dog progress to field readiness...

Re: Some videos of 12 week pup
Looks like a lot of fun. What'd you take the videos with? IMO, I would allow the pup to interact with the bird more without your involvement. When she gets in the area of the bird, stay back and allow her to figure it out. She might point, she might not, let her go in on the bird and make the natur...

Re: Help, Crate Training
I should reiterate that the three to four hour waking up was not done by whining but by setting my alarm clock. Sometimes I had my wife kicking me to wake up :P Placement I agree is a very subjective thing. I am just giving a descriptive account how it worked for me. I did try putting our first pup ...

Who did you purchase your Vizsla pup from? Chances are they would know of someone who purchased a dog from them that you could contact, that is if the breeder doesn't want to answer or help you with your concerns? Though you cannot go wrong with Lee. I had my two Vizslas boarded with him and was imp...

Re: Help, Crate Training
Putting the pup in a crate at the foot of the bed would be something I would not advise to someone. That would just let the pup keep crying because you are in the same room. When I have a pup, I put their crate in a separate room near the main bedroom. Close the door when you are still awake so the ...

Put the cursor on top of one of the three videos and click it. When the next page loads you'll press play in the video screen.
I am assuming It would be universal with either a mac or windows operating system because the site is just like Youtube only no commercials .

Some videos of 12 week pup
Hey Guys, Just wondering what advice anyone can give with my video observations. Let me know what you think. So far the pup has shown a great aptitude with drive and nose. Right now I can only work her every two weeks on birds. So far it has worked like this: pre ten weeks: retrieving frozen quail t...

After many suggestions, I really appreciated them by the way, I had decided on Dankar Kennels. Someone PM'ed me about them and I checked them out. Talked to Kara on the phone and I decided at the end of the phone call they were my kennel to choose. Thanks everyone for the help!

Thank you for the information again Howie,
I sent an email to Cary just a few minutes. As soon as I checked on here and saw your reply, I was almost done looking over the pedigrees with the two potential litters.

GSP Breeder Suggestions in Wisco

I have spoken already with Howie Hill from Minnesota and he had given me a recommendation that I am looking into. Just wanted to ...

Re: straight stocked pump gun.
Yup you are right you can get just about any pump for 550.00. However they will not have as much cult status as a the Remington 870 special field. For example, I found the same 20 gauge, that I am selling, going for 649.00 elsewhere and I can tell you mine has only seen four boxes of shells! It real...

Ok so it sounds like a more controlled environment is need to figure out if the dog is having problems differentiating between cold and hot spots. Like I said before this has just happened recently and I was unsure how to handle it. I have done something similar to what Bill and Brad have done with ...

Am I missing something?
Greetings Gang, I have a two year old Vizsla that is doing some pretty crazy stuff lately and was wondering what anyone would suggest to do about it? She hunts with my three year old well and has hunted alone well. I have had her exposed to birds early on (grouse initially and then pheasant) and hav...

Re: Suggestions on new Auto Loader Purchase?
They both clean the same way after every time I shoot them: easy to break down and clean out. I am assuming your question as a clever way of saying you HAVE to clean a gas operated gun more than an inertia. An inertia gun has less parts and based by design appears to be cleaner after the same amount...

Re: Best 20 g. waterfowl load
While I agree 20 gauge might be an OK choice over decoys, do you mind the recoil? Personally I would think that target acquisition after the second shot would be a key thing to consider and the 12 gauge 3" will be easier than a 20 gauge 3". But if the recoil doesn't hinder this point, then it doesn'...

I own both a Benelli M1 super90 and just recently bought a Winchester Super X3 28 inch barrel 3 1/2 inch chamber Composite. If you were looking for pricepoint and a great handling brand spanking new 12 gauge, the Winchester is the way to go. I have patterened the gun with 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells and...

Thanks for the comments fellas! The reason for the Benelli M1 was my brother in law wants me to visit him and the rest of the family in Stuttgart AR this coming January. We are hunting mallards in the timbers and geese hunting on some fields. My dad makes the trip every year and is pretty excited I ...

Shell of choice? Please read first before replying!
Now I know I am opening an enormous can of worms but I will try to narrow it down as much as possible. I recently purchased a Benelli M1 super 90 and was looking for shells to experiment with. I am a bit of an alchemist by nature, so I wanted to look around for something different than a Winchester ...

My two Vizslas have been on Redpaw Power Edge 32k (2 3/4 cups split twice on a regular day with a little water) and Trainer's Edge dog treats when out training. Both have been looking great since the switch at the beginning of the summer. I do not know if it helps but I do give them dog multi-vitami...

Greetings from WISCO!
Hello, I am new to this forum but have an enormous enthusiasm for bird hunting. I come from a family that raised beagles and my father still field trials quite a bit. growing up I was always around dogs and never thought I would get back into hunting fifteen years later. I no longer live in the coun...
