Re: Off Topic - Black Raspberry Bumper Crop
We've already had a ton of zucchini, black raspberries and mulberries, with much more coming. The cucumbers in my granddad's garden have been ready for awhile now too, but he planted them all with perfect timing - got his garden out and ready before my dad and my aunt. On a less fruitful but just as...

Re: Havencrest Gundogs --Website Grand-opening
A black background isn't a website killer, it just needs to be done differently to provide a contrast that is readable but still easy on the eyes, which is harder to accomplish than with a lighter background as a starting point. In fact, for sites with a lot of photographs, I think a dark background...

I ran a hunt test with Steve handling my dog's bracemate. In the end we worked the course more like a team than a competition, and finished both dogs that weekend, sharing in the congrats. My budget has already been spent on new kennels. Along with finishing them up, I'll need a couple more remote launchers, and will need to build a pigeon coop and quail flight pen, but those will be side projects. The most important thing isn't any of the stuff, it's being able to get out with the do...

I'm glad to hear the update! Instilling confidence in a dog is one of the hardest, most drawn out things a trainer has to do at times. It takes patience, time, repetition and a tight-lipped observer. Ultimately, you have to give the dog opportunity after opportunity to figure it out on his own - it'...

As long as you're not roading the pup (it shouldn't be pulling anything), a free run for 45 mins to an hour each day isn't bad. Just watch it on the cement/concrete/asphalt. A run in an open field is much better, and allows the dog to explore and use its sniffer.

I'll throw another vote in for the Dogtra launchers. They're quiet. It's easy to set the spring tension (low flush vs. high flush). And they're reliable.
I also think that they make a QL version for quail and pigeons, and also a PL version for pheasants. (larger)

Maybe, but you can't argue with results.
I like how it's a part of every solution that the dog gets proper exercise. People seem to be amazed how well a properly exercised dog behaves as compared to a dog who doesn't get to do anything.

Agree with JimB and Knine here. Dogs are pack animals. Irregardless of any new study that shows dogs can feel the emotion of jealousy, you have to establish yourself as alpha in the pack. Don't get emotion confused with behavior. The dog doesn't decide, you decide. There's too much research over too...

On the kennel command, I do the same. They go inside the kennel, they get a quick treat. It can be as simple as a milkbone. They'll do it quicker next time. After awhile you won't have to use the treats anymore, the command will just be ingrained.

My only concern with this is how your pup would react to a voice coming from a 2-way radio rather than coming from your mouth. That might freak some dogs out. Also, if you give her a command, she might not know where it's coming from, making it hard to comply. I'd try a test run by clipping a 2-way ...
