Re: Avery True Bird ATB vs. Dokken Dead Fowl

Training with birds really is the way to go... I carry the dead fowl only in case I get off work in time to head out to our spot to train, as I am in a position where my dogs are welcomed at my work.

Re: Avery True Bird ATB vs. Dokken Dead Fowl

For me it really depends on the situation. I love dokkens as their feel is closer to a bird. The averys are more of a hard plastic with grooves for better grip and IMO better for water work as they Do not retain water if damaged. The dokkens on the other hand are made from a latex high density foam ...

Re: retriever rehabilitation from bad training experience

I agree, more details would be helpful. Build her trust in you. Leave out the retrieving right now, just get her enjoying every second she's with you. She most definitely knows what a collar is, and what it does so it looks like you'll need to train "old school" before collars. And there are some gr...

Hi , todd Manuel at snowqualmie river retrievers is a great guy, I'll be sending my male there when it warms up( I live in AK) he only charges $600 a month

You might want to give him a shot

Edited to add: he also trains pointers, the male that's going down is my avatar dog. He needs a brushup

I would back off the birds until he is through the teething process, Keep up fun retrieves, and puppy play-work.

Another thing is to freeze those birds, but if he is truly teething a nice frozen bird will feel good when he bites down hard on them.

Have fun

Re: 4 month old Lab retriever does well, seems lazy. Help please

By the way you worded your post, and the frequency in which you said you train retrieves, it sounds like your little pup is bored. Back off of retrieving a bit, play and bond with your pup. He will still know how to retrieve when you go back to it. I would only retrieve with him maybe 1 time a week,...

Hi, Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I had a wirehaired girl that did the same thing, to fix her we did a combination of things. First I re-did her "forced training" that her previous owner didn't get quite right, then we worked on land that had 2 ft or so drop offs, working into forcing to wat...

Some breeders wait 6 months (maybe they have a different Female to breed, and dont want two litters on the ground at once). If you want the same Sire and Dam you'll have to wait at least a year, and even then they may not do a rebreeding. The breeder may only breed very occasionally, and may not hav...

The way I see it, you have 3 options. Talk to your wife, and explain whats going on. If you can have a pet there, put down the deposit (is it refundable?) and have him/her there. Talk to the breeder, work something out with them, arrange for boarding until you can move into a more suitable place.(no...
